Re: Series 2 Strombergs - One stuck open - Linkage
OK, looks like just slackening the 'W' clamping bracket moved it round OK. Just need to sort slow running cutting out now....

Re: UK registered car or export?
The C plate probably belonged to another car, maybe a demo, and was just put on to enable it to be driven for the film. Although technically illegal this was fairly common practice by factories at the time, I know of Austin Healey cars, as well as BSA and Triumph motorcycles doing this.

Series 2 Strombergs - One stuck open - Linkage
Hi, my front stromberg linkage doesnt close fully and the car idles way too fast. i can't see any way of adjusting it back so it hits the throttle stop screw, its about 1/4" off. Any ideas, is it stuck on something?

Door Catches
I have an issue with the LH door on my Series 1 OTS. The RH door closes fine but the LH door catch seems to have a large slack when in closed position. I have compared the locks & catches, tried moving the adjustments, but both sides seem to have the same play in them. The LH door was originally the...

Re: no keys for door locks
$25 seems very high price for an FS key, you should be able to get them for much less once you know the number. I have a collection of FS and some other keys and just try them in turn, its not often I don't have the one I need, although I don't have them all. FS key numbers run from approx 876 - 955...

Re: previous owners
I think what is meant by this is the previous owners in the US. If you have the US title/ reg doc, it should have the last owner on it (note, make a copy of it - you may have to hand this in on registration in UK). You could write to them and request history, i have done this in the past with some s...

Early 4.2 Main Bearings
I am wondering what the differences are with the different part numbers listed for these. The parts book gives from engine no 7E1001 to 7E0000 and then subsequently, but I think this must be a typo? Robey only lists one part for them, so what is the difference?

Re: 64 OTS Rear Bumper Overrider
Thanks for the reply. It looks like these nuts are the same as hold the sidepanel on my Triumph 650! Anyway, due to the exposed position they have rusted/ disntegrated such that I cannot get a grip on anything. I have put them to one side for later removal with the angle grinder. I may weld in a cap...

64 OTS Rear Bumper Overrider
Just removed rear bumper (half the bolts snapped off!). I can't remove the bumper blade from the overrider as the bolt just spins, although I can't see any nut, captive or not. the parts book lists a 'grip nut' although I have no idea what this looks like, there does appear to be something like a wa...

Re: Build engine frames around the engine?
The engine & gearbox are lowered to the ground first, with the front of the car jacked up. Access to remove the gearbox is then fairly straighforward.

Re: Jag diff - Dana 44 CWP conversion
Using Dana 44 3.07:1 parts is the way I am going. The rear suspension is still in the car but I was lucky enough to source a new Spicer gear set from Amazon (before the Aus version took over here!) for about $150. Instead of shoulder bolts I have hardened spacers to fit over the 3/8 Dana bolts which...

Re: Build engine frames around the engine?
Its not really feasible to tilt the engine & gearbox to around 45 degrees in a home workshop using a normal engine hoist, so what I did was lower them to the ground, unbolt the gearbox from underneath then lift the engine straight up. There is just enough room to wiggle it out with the clutch still ...

Series 1 Wiper Park Position - Worth Changing?
I have converted my OTS to RHD, but I'm really wondering about the value of changing the wipers over. According to the topic below its a bit up in the air anyway, as well as the fact that LH wiper parking is the norm for a RHD car!! LH wiper parking gives a better sweep for the driver than the other...

OTS Boot Area Queries
Does anyone know the following: 1 - Diameter and location of the boot cable release mounting hole in the bulkhead (above the loom hole?) 2 - Front left of the boot under petrol tank is raised up where it meets the side of the inner arch, but not on the right. Is this deliberate or has it just been p...

Re: OTS boot cable question
Does anyone know the cable lock hole size inside the body of a 4.2 series 1 and where it is positioned? Mine has rusted out so I have no datum to work from. I know its above a 3/4 hole which is for the wiring harness to go through? Could be about 1 1/2" above that? Thanks.

Re: VIN number
You forgot that the term 'soccer' is also used in Australia, as 'football' refers to the Aussie rules game (and even more annoyingly, particularly for someone who grew up in Yorkshire - sometimes also used for rugby league).......

Re: Steering column issues
A different problem with my column - I can't undo the large adjuster nut to dismantle the column, the threads look rusted. i have tried turning it with a leather strap oil filter wrench but that broke! I don't want to wreck the adjuster, any tips would be welcome.

Re: Engine side frames
Interesting thread and some great info covered here, another example of why this forum is so good. My 64 OTS project is my first Jag so I am learning a lot! I have worked on other cars of the era and I don't have the luxury of a pit or heavy lifting gear but I successfully removed the engine & gearb...
