Many thanks for your help. I'll knock up the rest of the car over the weekend!

I've a couple of doors and would like to know what age and series they're from. Any help is appreciated? Re: Front wheel bearing
Hi Abdul,
Try to identify from which wheel the noise is coming and then you can investigate further.
Does the grinding occur with the wheel jacked-up; this may give more information.
Are the calipers and dust shields secure?
Yours,
Phil

Re: Best coat for rear suspension
Hi Philippe, If you identify where the parts need to be masked by taping them, a good powder coating specialist should be able to do this for you. For interface areas with fasteners eg washers, I used the fastener itself as a mask before I sent them to be coated although you then have to replace the...

Re: Upper Fulcrum Shaft Bushes C8672 - Sloppy Bores ?
Hi Philippe-J, The objective of the bush is to isolate suspension from the frame and provide compliance during movement of the suspension arms. There has to be an amount of rubber between the washers and the fulcrum block/frame mount otherwise there would be no isolation. The section Fig. 6 is not c...

Re: Hinge Pillar and Door Frame Seal Directions
Hi Klaus, I haven't fitted the seals yet as I am having difficulty with the window frame- it fitted nicely when trial fitted before installing the door wiper seal but now I can't get it to slide down to the waistline location. Anyway, I removed the chromed hinge pillar (B Post) and cut a section of ...

Re: Hinge Pillar and Door Frame Seal Directions
Many thanks to Steve, Simon and Randall for their help. I popped over to Hutson's in Bradford today to pick-up some parts and Andy showed me an S1, FHC where the configuration of the seals was as No. 2 in my sketch. My feeling is that as Randall has suggested, you trial fit the frame and then try th...

Re: Hinge Pillar and Door Frame Seal Directions
Hi Simon,
That's great information and just what I was looking for. I now need to simply change the direction of mine to reflect yours and from what you say may need to consider trimming the door edge seal.
Many thanks,
Phil

Re: Hinge Pillar and Door Frame Seal Directions
Hi Simon, Thanks for the photos. It looks as if your hinge pillar seal has the tip pointing towards the outside. Which way does the corresponding door seal face? Sorry for the rough sketch; combinations in the photo -- looking from above. I've still got to decide on the interior colour... your red l...

Re: Hinge Pillar and Door Frame Seal Directions
Hi Steve... It's the B Post but called hinge pillar in the parts catalogue. I've attached a couple of photos. I've put the seal in the pillar so that it is curved into the inside and will have a wiping effect when the door closes. My feeling is that the the one in the door should be opposite to this...

I'll have a look at Angus's web-site but am struggling to find a FHC in the factory fit section.

Re: Engine Oil Dye
Hi Simon,
I suspect you don't need a UV dye in the oil as most oils fluoresce anyway. However, if you have a leak already the background may disguise the source of the leak if you're not able to clean it well enough.
Yours,
Phil

Hinge Pillar and Door Frame Seal Directions
Hi, I've just fitted the hinge pillar complete with seal. I'm wondering what people's thoughts are on the direction of the seals for the hinge pillar and the rear of the window frame where they meet. I've fitted the seals in the hinge pillar with the curve inwards but wondered which direction that i...

Re: Front brakes safety wiring
Hi Philippe, The washers were from Spalding Fasteners, Lincoln, UK but actually bought through their eBay site to avoid postage as I only wanted a small quantity. I'd give them a call. The description of washers are Grade 10.9 high Tensile Steel, Through Hardened Flat Washers to DIN6916. The spares ...

Re: Front brakes safety wiring
Forth bolt is not safety wired. Has anyone experienced spreading of the fork attachments of the brake shields? I found that the forks were spreading and ended up with the washers cupped. I solved it by using high tensile washers.... seen as dark grey in the photo. Phil https://i.postimg.cc/0QD3bJ9r/...

Outside Door Handle Push Button Clearance
I'm in the process of fitting the outside door handle and trying to achieve the 1/32in clearance between the plunger and contractor shown on Page N23 of the Service manual. I'm finding that the plunger is in contact with the contractor despite the plunger being screw completely in. If the door latch...

Tailgate Prop, Receiving Bracket – Early 4.2 FHC.
I’m currently working on the prop for the tailgate which is the one attached to the door and not the folding type. When I bought the car, the bracket attached to the body that receives the prop was missing and I’ve now bought a new one which isn’t quite what I expected. It’s PN BD21281 as opposed to...

Re: Early 4.2 S1 RHD - External Vacuum Pipe Routing
Hi Steve, I've checked the dimension to the "T" and in mine its 6in against the 9in of yours which probably explains why I'm having difficulty. As you can see from the photos of my car (blue) - when the pipe is attached to the firewall with the central clips and with the "T" in a position that will ...

Re: Early 4.2 S1 RHD - External Vacuum Pipe Routing
Thank you Steve. I offered the pipe up yesterday and can see how it lines up with the Reservac check valve but the side "T" in that area is half way down the pedal housing so connection to the rear of the master cylinder is not easy. I'm not convinced how good the parts that I've bought are and may ...
