Re: Moving on, current ideas on value sought

Hello. Thank you for your replies. As I think most have pointed out, trying to establish an appropriate valuation especially without photos is difficult, I appreciate this. The car is a genuine right hand drive series 1 OTS, 1 of 862 built for all rhd markets (numbers from xkedata) it was originally...

Moving on, current ideas on value sought

I guess it comes to us all at some point, due to a change in direction including a house extension its time for me to part with my E type. I'd like if I may to ask for your views on current values. The car is an original Series 1 UK right hand drive Open Two Seater made during 1966. Its Dark Blue wi...

Re: Repetitive application of my head to brickwork.

Hi all. A story along similar lines.......... A few years ago I took my Series 1 car into a then local so called specialist Jaguar garage for the clutch to be renewed, obviously the engine and gearbox were removed in order to accomplish the task. The car was then used as time and circumstance allowe...

Re: Differential Identification numbers ?

Hello all. When I restored/overhauled the IRS on my 1966 Series 1 car a few years ago I found some marking stamped into the bottom rear face of the differential casing, they are as follows: D 66 (where I'm assuming D to represent April & 66 1966) and the differential serial number of 2188 there were...

Re: Fuel Smell

Hi.

I had a similar problem when returning from the classic Le Mans this year. On investigation I found that the unions around the boot bulkhead head connector (C.18254) had come loose and were leaking. Worth checking if only to eliminate.

Re: Carrying a fire extinguisher

Hi all. I have carried one (foam type) in my car for a number of years - this was really spurred by my experience whilst working at the National Motorcycle Museum in 2003 when the Museum suffered a dreadful fire - it's an unremitting thing, better to be equipped in some form is my recommendation.......

Hi Malcolm, David. I suspect you are correct in terms of the header tank being roughly up to the half way point - I have followed the instructions re filling in the original handbook which states " check the level of the coolant in the radiator header tank and if necessary top up to the bottom of th...

Topping the engine coolant off after a run

Hi all. I have a series 1 4.2 litre car that during a run pushes coolant out from the system to the extent that it requires roughly just over 1.5 pints or just under 1 litre to top it back up again, this to the bottom of the filler neck in the header tank, this being both filled and replenished when...

Mike Eck contact detail

Hi all. Does anybody know if Mike Eck is still repairing clocks ? I sent mine off to him (recorded as being delivered on 1/2/16) and have emailed him a couple of times (mail sent to: Mike@jaguarclock.com) without any response. Getting a little concerned - can anyone offer an update on his status ple...

Hi Adam. I still have an original Dunlop clutch master cylinder in my '66 4.2, from experience, just make sure that any seal kit you get for it is purposed for a Dunlop unit as opposed to Girling............the seals whilst may be potentially having the same bore size ain't the same.......!! Hi Andrew. A quick dig into this, in Clausager's Factory-Original Jaguar E-Type he states: 'Gearbox numbers were common to all models and ran from EB 101 TO EB 15709. Gearbox numbers were usually suffixed JS (often JSO) for Jaguar shaved gears, rarely CR for close ratio ground gears; there may have ...

Hi Peter.

Thank you for the conformation, I'll have a chat with SNGB (whom I have sourced most of my spares from) to see if they can supply.

With the weather closing in it may be next year before I can test the theory !

Hi Nick, Ian. Thank you for your comments and information. I have tried lifting the brake pedal to no avail. One prevailing school of thought was heat soak into the servo unit which may promote a brake 'hanging on' condition. It has really only been present when the car has been driven for some dist...

Exhaust heat shielding Series 1 4.2 RHD cars

Hi all. I have a problem with the brakes on my '66 car, when driven for some time the brakes are susceptible to slightly holding on when the brake pedal has been released. I have changed the brake fluid (all the brake components are reasonably new) to no avail, I suspect the problem may be down to h...

Sticky brakes

Hi all.

The quick answer is no heat shield fitted, on that basis and following what would appear to be sound advice I'll get one fitted and report back.
I'm planning on attending the Classic at Silverstone in a couple of weeks so should have some feedback reasonably quickly.

Best

Sticking brakes

Hi all, I've had a similar problem in my '66 RHD series 1 OTS, the brakes sometimes stick on and require a 'double tap' on the brake pedal to get them to come off. This was noticeably worse during a trip to the Le Mans classic last year after the car had been in slow moving traffic for an extended p...
