Re: Stolen in France 889606

Thank you all for the moral support. Thank you Steve in particular to post in on the other forum. Indeed the car was produced in autumn 1963 but registered in 1964. It ended up in europe only in 2018 or 2019, after which we undertook its restoration in steps for it being finally complete by 2022. We...

Re: Stolen in France 889606

Thank you Steve for the modification. Should have thought of this myself. Still a bit confused I suppose.

Stolen in France 889606

Last Friday I discovered that my car an 3.8 FHC, chassis 889606, was stolen from the underground garage in a neighbouring village I rent. Police traced the theft down to the night of 27-28th of September. I suspect it was a planned theft, since the garage next to mine was opened as well, but without...

Re: Front license plate bracket

When I modified this assembly to fit a French number plate, I removed it from the car as well. First I undid the stalk which is fixed to the car in front of the radiator. After this I opened the headlight fairing (series 1 car) and removed the sugar scoop. Through this openingI could reach in toward...

Re: [edited] Spin on oil filter vs retrofitting OEM filter housing on Series 1

Hi Klaus, The disk in my filter housing didn't fit tightly at all, but I put it back in nevertheless. Next time I'll open it up again, I try to do the trick Barrie suggested in post #41 and panel beat a bit around the centre opening to make it fit tightly.
Good luck.

Re: Reputable UK or Dutch based E-Type specialists sought

Hi, Having sourced my car in the Netherlands, I used the services of Avelingen Restorations in Gorinchem (NL). Last year they rebuilt the entire front end of my car, including sending the engine and gearbox for a rebuild. This winter they are working on the body, which has been taken back to the bar...

Re: scuttle casing assembly under the dash

I took a photograph of the ones that are presently removed from my LHD (US delivered) car. Cannot guarantee these are original, but that's what came with the car. A few extra holes from the PO are visible from this side, but when the panels were recovered with vinyl, only the original holes were kep...

Re: [edited] Spin on oil filter vs retrofitting OEM filter housing on Series 1

Thank you for the tip Steve, I'll switch to the larger seal. Serge: The seal under the bolt head is rather thick, but when I screwed it in, it was easily squeezed until the bolt head almost touched the canister. The bolt head has an integrated large washer, so squeezes this top seal rather uniformly...

Re: [edited] Spin on oil filter vs retrofitting OEM filter housing on Series 1

What a coincidence: I am having similar issues. I think I removed all old seals from the filter housing (not so easy to see) and inserted only the thin seal. To fill the canister with oil, I cranked the engine using the solenoid button behind the battery with the ignition off, to avoid starting the ...

Re: [edited] Spin on oil filter vs retrofitting OEM filter housing on Series 1

When ordering the parts, I also couldn’t source the washer 6160. I finally took a large washer with ID 3/8” and took its outer diametre down to 23 mm, to make sure it can compress the felt washer, but without hitting the recess in the pressure plate. Not having any better ideas for the drain plug se...

Re: [edited] Spin on oil filter vs retrofitting OEM filter housing on Series 1

Thank you Joe. So I'll install the canister and filter without any additional seals around the middle.

Anyone any ideas for the filter housing drain screw seal by any chance?
Best regards,

Re: [edited] Spin on oil filter vs retrofitting OEM filter housing on Series 1

Hi all, Sorry for my ignorance, but I only a novice in E-type works. Presently, I’am also attempting to convert my S1 3.8 from a spin on adaptor to the OEM canister. I managed to buy a NOS canister from ebay and bought the canister bolt, seals and so on from one of the usuals. But when I started mou...

Hello from France

Hello all, In spring this year, I bought an E-type and joined this forum to get more familiar with the challenges related to these cars. What a wealth of information has been accumulated over the years in this forum. My complements to all and the administrators in particular, to keep for example the...
