Re: Timing? Carburation?

Are you timing the car with the Vacuum Disconnected? Whether Manifold (vacuum at idle) or Ported (no vacuum at idle) the Initial timing should always take place Without Vacuum connected and the Vacuum Port Plugged so the car doesn't have a vacuum leak. With Ported Vacuum connecting the Vacuum after ...

Re: fitting under dash hardura

On my 62 3.8 It goes above the dash lip an under the long sheet metal bracket on the body if I remember correctly.
I'd have to look to be sure and can do that later on if needed.

Re: Over torqued head nuts

In Torque to Yield bolts the bolt is used once and discarded. I don't believe Jag specified torque to yield specs or the fasteners would all be discarded after one use and this is not specified. When a bolt is Torque to Yield it is specified as such in a Factory Manual. if he Torqued to Yield and th...

Re: Oil pressure, one more round

You can have your Original Elec gauge face used in a conversion to a Mechanical gauge if that's what you want.
Or you can have your Orig Elec gauge Rebuilt so it's accurate.
No reason to live with a defective gauge.

Re: Over torqued head nuts

If you are within torque limits of the stud size no problem. If you are well outside the limits then I believe you have compromised the metallurgy and cannot depend on the stud to hold torque. It will loosen. In that case you should replace. I forget, what are they 7/16" or 1/2" fine, grade 8? Here'...

I believe Pegasus Racing is one place you can buy a variety of Sensor ratings. I think that's where I got mine. Any of the Performance/Race suppliers of which there are many will have a variety of sensor ratings. You don't want too low a pound rating as it can be so low , like 5-7#, that damage is a...

Re: Oil pressure, one more round

What pressure warning light sensor are you going to run? A "I'm screwed" sender at 5-7# (very common OEM on vintage cars) that means your engine is toast when at speed? Or a "I have a problem" sender at 20# or so, so you can pull over and save the engine? I run a 20# on a Sprite I have. Sender press...

Re: Oil pressure, one more round

Yes, your readings are way too low. Connect your new Mechanical Pressure Test Gauge Kit to the oil galley plug after the filter. That will tell you actual oil pressure to the bearings. You may need and adapter as I think those plugs are BSPP (Parallel) or perhaps BSPT (Taper). If the plugs have a se...

Hella H4 e code fits.
They also have the flat lens. Really don't notice it unless you look closely.
I do have a SI with covered headlamps so they are not obtrusive.
You have exposed lamps?

Re: I'm not sure if these are sold in the UK....

I don't see your model in your post but if it's a S1 single fan setup the nice thing about the Coolcat fan is it mounts in the orig fan location-picture frame bracket, fits perfectly within the original shroud, and pulls about the same as original fan's rather low amps. Many electric radiator fans p...

Re: 3.8 Engine Damper Alternatives

I believe it to be a common substitute. Look at all the available High Performance balancers for these engines. None of them have a design like the early ones. Mass seems to be less or same with smaller diameter. Been running one for 25 years on my 3.8 installed by the Jag performance shop that buil...

Re: SU fuel pump vents (2)????

If they are like the SU pump on my 69 Sprite they are not really vents, they are so the diaphragm can breath. They are not venting fumes.
Mine go from the pump up into the trunk to supply clean air for the diaphragm to operate.

Re: S1Air/Oil separator on breather?

Well I don't really want to run a breather to the atmosphere. I want to keep it going to the plenum but was interested in whether or not there was enough flow to prevent it from being stopped by the separator. Not an excess of crud in the plenum but it is there and would rather not have those fumes ...

S1Air/Oil separator on breather?

I have the stock crankcase breather system on my 3.8 S1. Front of head to plenum. Always gets rather nasty in there. It would be easy to plumb in an Air/Oil separator canister to that circuit while leaving it connected to the plenum. Would the weak pull/push of the stock breather circuit function th...

Re: gear engagement

Try Redline MTL rather than going straight to Auto Trans Fluid.
Viscosity is between MT90 and Auto Trans Fluid.
Been using it in my retrofit later close ration all synchro box for years and works great. A little noiser than MT90 and less than Auto Trans Fluid.
