It should have said"removed ignition kill switch circuit from coil" as grasping for straws.

I picked up new coil...lucas sport model , installed and no difference, fuel pump does tick, glass full, checked all leads/connections and appear ok. Will try the suggestion about rotor. Mine is blue and shows no signs of wear. I looked at distributor and appears ok with no wear. Will try wires tomo...

pulled distributor rotor...showed absolutely no wear...ordered a lucas sport coil and will pick it up Monday...I hope this is the problem

Engine removed and replaced all seals and clutch. Have driven about 50 miles since. On Wednesday, Tach went to zero and came back on a few minutes later...No issues with engine. Thank you all for the input into my problem. I am happy to report that I put a screwdriver in where the reverse rod is located and it withdrew without any issue. I forgot to mention that no work was done on gearbox and the lid has not been removed. I am a little nervous about removing lid as no experience with a transmission and don't want to totally screw it up. I know it has to come off to see inside but will wait for any suggestions from the forum before ...

I re-cleaned the terminals and connections on starter and car now starts!!!Yeh!! I have a 1969 e type jag convertible.British racing green with tan interior.
