Turn signals won’t work

1969 S2 FHC turn signals suddenly don’t work. The hazard lights work at all locations, but no lights at the rear or front with the column turn signals. Installed a new flasher unit TF550 and still no turn signal response. All fuses look good. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Stuck bonnet safety latch. S2 FHC

Just for future references on repairing a stuck or damaged central E-type safety latch. My latch was impossible to access and apparently it was damaged at one time. My Jag mechanic, Chris Malone, described the process. 1. Double tape all edges on the bonnet, so if the bonnet moved, no chipping of th...

Re: Stuck bonnet safety latch. S2 FHC

Thanks guys for your suggestions and clever ideas. I tried using a screwdriver to blindly push anything between the rubber seal and into the latch mechanism. I was afraid that I could damage the car so I stopped. The bonnet is very tight in the center even though the side latches are disengaged. I f...

Stuck bonnet safety latch. S2 FHC

Bonnet safety latch is stuck, hood will not open. The side latches are fully released but the bonnet safety latch in the center will not release. I used my endoscope and can visualize the latch which is still latched into the center of the firewall receptacle. I’ve tried to physically move the bonne...

Re: Replace exterior door handle

I want to thank Tim, Geoff, and Andy for your help. I was a little hesitant to tear into my wife’s E’s doors without some understanding of the mechanics. It really wasn’t that bad and the new handles look great; they even lock now. It’s nice to have friends across the pond. Allen.

Replace exterior door handle

How difficult is it to remove the door handle and replace it with a new one? Can this be done without removing the window and window mechanisms? Can you access the internal hardware that’s holding the handle and lock to the door? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Allen. 1969 Series2 FHC....

Engine serial number

How can I confirm the model or type of Jaguar that a (4.2 engine with serial number) came out of? I’m aware that Heritage Trust will certify components, but is their any other avenues of engine/body model identification
services available?

Tune up

Following many attempts by a good and respected jag mechanic our 1969 E-type is still running poorly. The engine has approximately 15,000 miles since a complete rebuild. All engine stats are good. My mechanic rebuilt and tuned the two SU’s with new appropriate needles. The engine now starts and runs...

Re: Replacing window T frame rubber

I love this site. I was expecting replies that I would be criticized for posting such a shallow problem as “ having difficulty with rubber seals”. Thank you for the suggestions and the support. I especially enjoyed Peters story of vein ligation using a “fish-hook apparatus “ in the US? Really? BTW, ...

Replacing window T frame rubber

Ok. I thought this would be easy, but NO. My series 2 FHC needs the rubber on top of the window frame replaced on both doors. I attempted inserting the new rubber into the channel that accepts the “bottom of the T insert. It was almost impossible to push the rubber into the channel with a screw driv...

Re: Loud “bang” following lift

Thank you guys for the response. I checked the new wheels and all of the weights seem to be in place . As far as the lifting places, I’m aware of the dangers of placing the stress on the wrong lifting areas. My Jag mechanic has a lot of experience on E-types and I’ll forward your great insights and ...

Loud “bang” following lift

My 1969 FHC was recently lifted by my Jag mechanic to replace all wire wheels. The car was lifted at designed lifting points beneath body in front and at the bushing positions at rear. Following completion of service, driving the car home, I heard a loud metallic “bang” below the passenger side door...

Sticking voltage

Hi guys, My series 2 voltage gauge ,when starting, only reads to 12 volts. It will jump to 14 volts if I rev the engine over 3000 RPM’s and stay there unless I shut the engine down. The battery reads 12.87 volts at rest and only increases to over 14 volts while running if I again increase the RPM’s ...

Re: Remote starter solenoid location

Thank all of you for your responses and your time. I’ve been cooped up for the last three weeks and the E has allowed me some entertainment. I guess the remote starter solenoid “button” is in the right place. I just installed an aluminum radiator and new fans. Nice to see the gauge at the “O”. Thank...

Remote starter solenoid location

Hi guys, my 1969 FHC remote starter solenoid is located I believe in an odd place. It’s on the right side fire wall shelf below the wiper motor and windshield washer device. Is this the original location? I’ve explored all of the on line engine photos but can’t find one that reflects the original pl...

Re: SU Carbs problems

Einstein once said “ if I had one hour to solve a problem I’d spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about the solution “. Since I’m no Einstein, especially when it comes to old SU Carbs, I really appreciate your help with both the problem and the solution. My Jag mechani...

Re: SU Carbs problems

Thank you for your responses. My name is Allen, residence: So. California. I bought this 1969 E type series 2 for my wife a few months ago and, as a long time Xk150 jag owner, was aware of the problems they can possess. The car has always run “rough” at idle and had a tendency to blacken the plugs. ...
