Re: Overflowing Fuel

Thank you all for your support, offers of help and empathy. I have taken advice now to sell my eType and will make one last attempt to suppress (at least temporarily) the overflowing fuel feature before disposing of it. I really appreciate the offers to assist with know-how and even parts. As some h...

Re: Overflowing Fuel

Thank you for all the advice. Sadly this issue appears to be the straw that has finally broken this camel's back. After years of lavishing my Series I with parts, upgrades, blood, sweat and tears I have reached the sobering conclusion that I'm going to scrap the thing as I simply cannot get it to wo...

Re: Overflowing Fuel

Thanks Julian, appreciate the advice. The fuel pump is external rather than submerged, but is still a traditional low pressure SU unit. First job tomorrow will be to remove and inspect the valve as you suggest.

Overflowing Fuel

Hi, I've recently re-commissioned a 3.8 complete with new needles and seats for all float bowls. The car ran fine for a few trips and was then laid up for a couple of months. Now, as soon as the fuel pump is initiated fuel flow straight out of the overflow on the farthest forward float bowl. All thr...

SU Spares

Burlen seem to be experiencing challenges sourcing various spares for HD8 carbs presently....does anyone have any recommendations for alternative suppliers, preferably in the UK?

Many thanks in advance

Fuel Tank

I'm looking to source a new replacement fuel tank for a Series 1 and there appear to be quite a number of suppliers of both steel and galvanised versions. As they do seem to vary wildly in price across the various suppliers I was wondering if anyone could offer any tips on quality and value for mone...

Girling Front Calipers

Excited to see the recently announced Girling branded calipers from SNGB. There appear to be many 4-pot upgrade options on the market. Does anyone have any early experience with the Girling sets or recommendations? I am looking to retain the original discs rather than upgrading. Thanks in advance.

S1 Fuel Tank and Ancillaries

I'm looking to source a new fuel tank and ancillaries (pump, sump and sender unit) for a S1 FHC and seeking any advice/recommendations for suppliers. Having conquered the tank removal (lots of contributions to the swear jar!) I'm wondering if anyone supplies a tank with slightly reduced flange/seam ...

Re: Cleaning alloy dash

Many thanks for the advice Mich and David. It is such a lovely feature of the car and as you suggest best of go gently. I'm only seeking to clean rather than polish. Thanks again.

Cleaning alloy dash

Before I cause any lasting damage to my alloy dash and console are there any recommended methods/products for cleaning? Autosol is my first thought but perhaps someone has experience with an alternative. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the generous offer Neil and the advice. Once I have her here near Plymouth I'll be in touch.

Re-commissioning Project

Embarking on the re-commissioning of a 1963 3.8 FHC after a number of years laid up in a less than ideal garage. Posting some initial photos (sorry about the lighting) in the hope that some more experienced members might offer some first observations on where to start! Any recommendations for replac...

Re: New member in Devon

Thanks for the warm welcome. It’s reassuring to know that the journey is one made by many before and I’m really grateful for the generous offers of advice.

I’m based in Plymouth but the project car is stored in Surrey for now. I’ll try and upload photos tonight.

New member in Devon

Hello and Happy New Year to all members! I have recently become the custodian of a 1963 S1 FHC 3.8 which was the pride and joy of my late brother. The car is in good condition but has been left garaged for 10 years and needs recommissioning and eventually restoring either by myself or a new owner. M...
