Re: Cold start issue
Mine cranks over for several seconds if I’ve left it for a few weeks. If I start it within a week, it fires up almost straight away. Nothing wrong with the choke on my car, it gives a very rich mixture and needs backing off almost immediately. But it doesn’t like being woken from a deep sleep. Hi t...

Re: S1 Original brake performance
Just replace all 4 tyres with a new alignment and bleeding. I’ll see what affect this has. Looking in the service manual there are 2 ways to connect the servo; for “early “ S1 4.2 cars the rears connect to the first circuit connection with “later” cars connecting first the front circuit. I have curr...

Re: S1 Original brake performance
If you revert to standard after having had Coopercraft front brakes you will find a definite deterioration in braking performance . It is not that the front brakes were not up to standard at the time : it is just that the performance of modern disc brakes is now in a different league. The most noti...

Re: S1 Original brake performance
Based on areas of the pistons the ratio is 45:30 f:r or 3:2. Based on 2 1/8 f and 1 3/4 rears My plan is to fit the originals and see Thanks When determining a basic force ratio, wouldn't you also need to take into account the area of the brake pads? Something like comparing (pressureXarea) for bot...

Re: S1 Original brake performance
Thanks for the replies. I am however surprised that with my rebuilt original 1 3/4 rear calipers the rear locks before the Coopercraft fronts. If the Coopercraft provide greater breaking than stock wouldn’t I expect them to lock first? As it stands the balance of the car is not good I prefer the fro...

Re: Fosseway Performance Heat shield.
Interesting point Simon, which occurred to me so I did ask Simon at Fosseway about it. My understanding is that it is efficient to reduce heat transfer. I will be interested to see in practice what happens to the heat. I am confident it will work well from what I was told. Hi I came across your pos...

Re: S1 Original brake performance
Hi, what was wrong with the Cooperkrafts apart from not looking the part. I personally upgraded mine to 4 pot calipers and vented discs from Fosseway Performance and find the braking and balance excellent, a great improvement from stock. https://i.postimg.cc/wxVNK5ky/IMG-1599-e1383082073532-225x300...

S1 Original brake performance
Deal all I have just acquired a set of S1 front calipers and pistons from a fellow member. My 1965 ots came with cooperkraft front calipers. I am considering going back to stock and would appreciate your experiences. I have just finished reconditioning the rears with new discs, girling pads and seal...

Re: Ignition wire order
Finally managed to get it right. It wouldn’t run as per the manual, I blew down no 1 and no6 which indicated no 1 was on the compression stroke, so tried 180 degrees out, still wouldn’t run. Finally used a dowel to get 1 &6 at tdc, verified no 1 was on compression and noted the position of the arm w...

Re: Ignition wire order
At the moment I have no1 at the bottom right (5 o clock position) followed by no 5 which aligns with the 3 o’clock cap securing clip.

Ignition wire order
Hi
Does someone have a helpful diagram of the order of the wires on the distributor cap for a 4.2 S1. I was being careful to replace like for like but have got confused and fear have them wrong. Do they follow the firing order counter clockwise?
I’m sure someone has done this before.
Thanks

S1 ignition wire conduit
Hi all Moss sell a nice champion ignition wire complete with conduit. They say “simply remove 2 cylinder head hold down nuts....” to install the conduit. Is this really simple, remove and retorque one at a time or must the whole head be retorqued and reset. I am cautious as I don’t want to creat a p...

I figured that, parts 57-60 I would guess. Am I likely to be missing the parts labeled 49-53? Probably cheap to order them and see

Gear stick detached
Hi guys As I went into reverse my gear stick (shifter) came out- literally! Managed to get it back in. I assume the retention bolt/ nut is somehow missing? Took a look underneath but no access. Would likely need to remove gearbox? A big job. Can anyone share experience or point towards a similar thr...

Re: Loose, floppy brake pedal
Tried today to tighten the pinch bolt as it seemed loose, not too successfully as it turned out, very hard to access. Not sure this is the cause of the problem. I have attached a couple of videos, one indicates the movement is coming from the master cylinder, not a loose pedal on the shaft I can’t u...
