Guys, I've been rechecking everything and I'm afraid I have a confession to make. I measured the gaps in inches because that's what my feeler gauges are and the shims in mm because that's what my micrometer speaks. I them calculated back to inches for ordering purposes and apparently multiplied inst...

valve clearance 4.2 S2

Hi Christopher (or anybody else who would like to comment), I started to use my car in May last year after restoring the bodywork, steering and suspension. I had about 3000 relatively trouble free miles during the year but there was a bit of a tick from the exhaust side of the engine, so I have meas...

Small correction - the screws holding the oilseal retaining plate are slightly longer than I said previously, so the description should be 5/16" UNC x 7/8" CSK. Apparently the CSK head needs to be included in the length.

I have successfully removed my gearbox rear oil seal from under the car without removing the IRS, although I did have to move it slightly. After removing the exhaust and the gearbox mounting it is possible to unbolt the front propshaft flange. This did not give enough clearance to remove the split p...

Update on my search for hardware for the hood envelope.............. I spoke to MCT and Martin Robey (couldn't get through to Suffolk & Turley), neither of whom could help, but the guy at Martin Robey suggested i try GB Classic Trim (http://www.gbclassictrim.com/). They were very helpful and promise...

Further to my earlier comments, I bought a new Filter King with a view to replacing individual components. The bowl of the new one is glass, the first one I bought (3 years ago from the same supplier) is plastic. I have swapped the bowl and the problem seems to be solved. The top (sealing) surface o...

Hi Greg, I recently bought a new soft top and cover from a large manufacturer in Germany and the cover also came without fittings. I had the top installed by a professional trimmer, no problem. However, I have been unable to find a supplier in Europe so far who can or will supply the cover fittings ...

Hi Steve, I assume you know that the map light under the dash top is the light which is operated by the door switches? The interior light (behind the seats in my OTS)(above the rear door in an FHC?) is only operated by the interior light switch on the dashboard. I think the wires to the map light sh...

Filter King leak

Does anyone have experience of a Filter King leaking around the bowl seal? I bought and fitted the (67mm) Filter King about three years ago but I've only had a battery on the car and been running the engine intermittently for a few months. From time to time it starts to leak for no apparent reason. ...

Blockley tyres

Do we know anything about the Blockley 185 x 15 tyres which MWS are advertising apart from the fact that they are VR rated and HR priced?

Thanks for the tips guys. Angus, coincidentally I was measuring up a builder's rubble bag for the purpose earlier in the evening before I read your reply! I think I'll go for the inside of the door with the plastic held in place by the window frame and regulator. Probably just let it hang loose at t...

plastic door liner

Can anyone tell me how the plastic sheet inside the doors should be fitted? From examination of the remains of the old liners I have it looks as if it should be inside the door at the top, trapped under the window frame fixings. It then goes down inside the door and is sandwiched between the door an...

I've been looking at the Odyssey website and also talking to a dealer here in the Netherlands. On the Odyssey site their selecter gives the PC1200MJT as the correct battery for my 4.2 engine. Apparently MJ stands for metal jacket, which is for high heat applications. Is that necessary, or is it just...

I'm in the process of refurbishing my soft top and find that the wooden stiffener at the leading edge of the roof frame is broken in the middle. I see that SC list this as a separate part in their catalogue but SNG Barratt do not, although I know SNG do not show all of their range. Has anyone ever c...

I also had a small but persistent leak from the thermostat housing which did not respond to extra tightening or liquid gasket. It turned out to be a crack in the housing close to the nut you can't get to very easily.

A secondhand housing from the Spares Day at Stoneleigh was the solution.

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of inspection plates for access through the floor (OTS) so I can only route the pipes downwards for access from underneath.

It shouldn't be too complicated. I mainly wanted to see what fittings people have used

Regards,

Dave.

remote bleed nipples

I have the idea that I have seen a photo recently of the extra piping added to move the rear caliper brake bleed nipples to an accessible location. Was that on here or maybe in the JEC or E-type club magazines? The search function on the forum here doesn't seem to be doing anything, or maybe I'm doi...

Goodwood Festival of Speed

I had the pleasure of attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed a couple of weeks ago for the second time (first time in 2002). Three days of great cars to see and hear in action on the hillclimb track! Far too many cars to show, but this was the classic Jaguar pit: http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/5...
