S3 fuel pump inline fuse

Hi, I'm trying to locate the live feed to my S3 fuel pump somewhere behind the dash in order to insert an inline fuse; according to the wiring diagram it appears to be unfused - aaargh!, fed by a plain white wire from the ignition switch and with a junction which also feeds various warning lights an...

Curt, I bought some sealing rings for mine as they were missing when I first took off the air filter covers. But there just isn't room to fit them with the modern rubber-edged filters so they are sitting on a garage shelf gathering dust... I'm confident that there is an adequate seal without them so...

Yes, I was joking as a riposte to Pete's suggestion of chewing gum for split/cotter pin manufacture (hence the lol emoticon ).

Alas, No liquorice shoelaces but I may be able to find an old bootlace tie if that will do?

Pete, many thanks, helpful advice, no nasties uncovered and apart from the shot bearings, hub and stub axle are in good nick. Also thanks to Marek who offline reminded me of the best way to get the end float right without a dial gauge (tighten right up, back off, hand tighten and back one castellati...

Many thanks for feedback Rolando and Woolfi. I'm absolutely certain that the problem is one of chemical reaction (I spent the first 20 years of employment as a research chemist and I still remember much of what was hammered into my thick skull during my degree studies :?). I'm keen to keep the pump ...

SIII front wheel bearing replacement

For some time I have had what I believe to be a rumbling/moaning wheel bearing on the front of my SIII; it got progressively louder last year and is even more noticeable now. Changing from P4000s to Dunlop SPs last year made no difference so not down to tyre tread pattern and coasting with the engin...

SIII leaky fuel pump

Hi, I'm experiencing repeated leaks from my fuel pump which on the SIII is a dual chamber SU AUF406/AZX1400 tucked inside the RH rear wheel arch. Some history: I rebuilt the pump four years ago when I was having some fuel supply issues, it had seen a lot of service so I gave it the full Burlen servi...

I got fed up with the quality of Otter switch replacements, mine like Andy's got stuck in the open position but a PO had fitted a manual override switch in the dash position occupied by the HRW switch in a fixed head. Permanent solution was to fit one of these: http://www.coolcatcorp.com/Merchant5/m...

Marcus, yes, timing on the V12 is always set with the retard unit disconnected and the hose from it and to the carburettor plugged, if not plugged the air bleeding in will increase the idle speed which really needs to be set as low as possible at around 650 rpm. 12 degrees BTDC is the setting I use ...

Marcus, a no-cost option would be to try blanking off the vacuum hose where it goes into the the bottom of the rear LH carb, this way you should seal off any air leak and run the car without any retard. Basically what you have now with a non-working retard unit but without any possible air leak. I w...

Marcus, this is part of my S3 V12 with which I'm very familiar! Christopher, the unit is a vacuum retard unit (and not as per the six cylinder engines for advance) - it was implemented I believe for emission control and faster warm-up purposes. When I bought my car my unit did not work either, the r...

I've used MWS in Slough before for the odd spoke replacement and have just taken all five of my original chrome wires in for checking plus new tubes, rim bands and Dunlop ER70VR15 SP Sports to replace the P4000s the car came with.
Friendly attentive service in my experience.

Lawrence, You are welcome to look at my S3, it is an original late UK model (only 100 made after it according to the VIN) and although an automatic the top engine plumbing is pretty much identical to a manual and as far as I can tell is as it was when it left Browns Lane in 1974. Marek?s advice is g...

So, the sun's out, my SIII is back on the road after its winter break and I'm pottering around the roads of Surrey, Kent and Sussex with a grin on my face listening to Sir William Lyons' 12th Symphony, the wind ruffling the top of my head where I once had hair... So what could possibly spoil this mo...
