Re: Brake fluid

This looks like the very old crimson brake fluid that was available in the UK a long time ago. It was fine to use at that time but is not available now. You would best to flush out all of that fluid from the system (it is more than likely to be quite a few years old) and replace it with a DOT4 fluid.

Re: Body Shop.

As you live in Coventry have you spoken to XK Engineering. This would be the most local to you.

New E Type Bonnets Being Made

A group of us made a visit to British Motor Heritage in Witney Oxfordshire a few weeks ago and was surprised to see that they have the rights to produce new E Type bonnets for all of the different series. I believe they are pressed away from the factory and assembled at the factory into a complete f...

Are you saying that I will be able to fit the plate from under the car without having to take anything apart.

I had the same problem as yourself. The repro lamps are not as good as the originals for shape and fit.
I had to have the area where the lamps fit reshaped to fit the contour of the new lamps. This is a real pain in the a**e and not recommended if you have just had a new paint job.

I have had similar problems as you and it took about 4 visits to the restorer to get them to shut to, shall we say, acceptable standard. The reproduction locks are of a poor standard and still now they do not shut at all well. In the end I gave up and have accepted that the doors will never shut cor...

Re: E Type Price ??

What sort of money would a 1967 series 1 FHC 4.2 manual R/H/D E type be worth in good to Exellent condition with triple wipers & triple carbs wire wheels original tool kit thanks John That's a good question. The prices seem all over the place at the moment. Is it possible to advertise a car for sal...

Alan, I agree the plastic lugs are not very strong and do break off easily. I have adjusted my cancelling ring so the lever only just touches the plastic lugs and puts as little pressure on them as possible. So far they have lasted for 3+ years. I am lucky that my brother is a Lucas specialist and h...

Out of interest, how do you adjust the position.
Is it from the knob on the bulkhead or from the cable inside the dashboard.

Which AM was it? DB9 or an other. Shame it was not a DB4 or 5 and then it would have made ?150K in 7 years.
Anyway good luck with your hunt for a nice E Type.

It might be worth trying another bleed of front and rear, but use an easi bleed kit or similar system.

I agree with Christopher, have a good look at the rear brake hose. If this has collapsed it would be causing exactly the problem you are having. It could also be the piston in the slave cylinder (the one for the rear brakes) which is sticking in the opperated position and applying presure to the flu...

Hi All, An update on my brake problem. It turned out to be the master cyl that was causing the trouble. When it was removed from the car, pressing the piston in by hand took a lot of effort and was very stiff. It would not release smoothly and stuck in several places. Took a fair bit of time to find...

I have just removed the rad to get access to the steering rack etc. As abowie says, it is a very simple job to tilt the bonnet to the near vertical position. Just remove the small grill in the centre of the bonnet and tie a rope or strap from there to the bulkhead bonnet safety bracket. Then release...
