Preferred Voltage Regulator for 1970 E-Type?

The originally fitted Lucas 4TR regulator for the 1970 E-Type is Lucas part# 37423. But a 1983 parts list from Jaguar shows it as # 37585 for the '70 & '71 4.2 E-Type. Presumably these two parts are essentially the same, though there must be some difference between them for Lucas to have changed the...

Hardtop: help with finding setscrew BD20487/3

I’m not finding from any of the leading usuals the hardtop setscrew BD20487/3, which secures the attachment brackets to the hardtop (part# 8 in the top image of the attached file). Ideally I’d like to find 4 NOS or used original screws – but at least I’d hope to find a correct looking screw. The bot...

Re: SU carb overflow question

Originality questions for a '70 S2 with SU carbs: - What were the original overflow lines made of (copper, maybe cad plated)? - Is there a definitive original pattern to the tube bends (pictures available somewhere)? - And is there a definitive original routing of the tubes (pictures available somew...

Re: Dash rocker switch surround colour and rear hatch lock finish

Same as Richard, I've only ever seen them in silver - Tamiya Flat Aluminium is your friend when it comes to touching then up (the original paint wears and chips very easily). The rear hatch lock was always a bit of a scruffy affair that again marks up very easily. To my eye they look like bare unfi...

Re: Help to identify this toolkit - ? I believe from XK / XKE era

For THE expert answer, contact Roger Payne, who has published many articles on Jag tools kits in the E-Type magazine. He has been tremendously helpful to me in my effort to assemble an authentic E S2 tool kit.

Re: Anyone refurbish a S1 OTS Wingard rearview mirror?

Another question: I noticed that some of these E-Type Wingard OTS mirrors are stamped "Pat No. 662246" (as in first photo in Robbiee #6 above), whereas other E-Type OTS mirrors that are identically marked "Wingard" do not have this or any other patent stamping. I didn't find any reference to this pa...

Re: Anyone refurbish a S1 OTS Wingard rearview mirror?

These are helpful photos, Robbie -- thanks. Your refurbished mirror looks great. From your photos, I'm guessing that to separate the frame from the base involves just manipulating those tabs to release everything. Is that it? Are those tabs fragile and liable to easily break? Also, once the frame an...

Thanks, Robbie. I've not yet hand a S1 mirror -- is there much to disassembling and reassembling it?

Anyone refurbish a S1 OTS Wingard rearview mirror?

I’m looking to replace my S2 OTS’s plastic Wingard rearview mirror with a S1 chrome Wingard mirror. I prefer to get an original Wingard mirror rather than a repro (some of which admittedly look very good). I’m being offered a very cheap Wingard one, in decent condition and including the mounting nut...

Hardtop latches -- S1 vs. S2

Scanning the jag-lovers archives, I see that the 3 front latches (the center and 2 outers) for the S1 hardtop are different from those of the S2. (courtesy of Richard Liggitt: http://www.xkebooks.com/images/Hardtop.pdf 1 I have a few very basic follow-up questions: 1. Does that necessarily mean that...

Re: Brake fluid bulkhead decal

I’m wondering whether Richard’s fabulous decal copy, though applicable for at least 1969 E-Types (judging from Richard’s and Bob F’s photos (above) of their originals), is “correct” for all S2s, including for example my later 1970 S2 OTS LHD. My owner’s manual (E. 154/5) does recommend Castrol/Girli...
