New clutch issue, Series II
As you may or may not recall, several years ago my Series II had a clutch issue where the throw-out bearing would not release completely.. Result.. remove engine and transmission, new clutch disk, pressure plate, throw-out bearing. About a year later, the pressure plate began intermittently making t...

Re: California License Plate Wrap
Opinions noted. Thanks! In California (as in many? most? other states) both a front and rear plate are required, however apparently unlike other states, enforcement here is spotty. The license plate wrap is an alternate to the metal front plate. https://licenseplatewrap.com/

Re: Clayton heater upgrade
Just installed the Clayton upgrade (https://claytonclassics.co.uk/parts-upgrades/heaters/jaguar/) in my series II. Indeed, the new heater core is indeed much slimmer, was not an exact fit but with some adhesive closed cell foam weather stripping tape and plumbers putty from the Home Depot, I was abl...

Re: center console
Indeed. Five minutes to remove the unit. Just removed mine to replace the ancient radio. Wanted a radio that provides "HD Radio" (i.e. digital FM broadcasting). Unfortunately apparently none of the of the "retro" radios have this feature so I went to the local auto audio shop and had them enlarge th...

Re: New Owner, First Day Out Woes
Congratulations on your new Series 2!
When you get everything sorted out, the two best mods to my 1970 Series 2 were the "Strangleberg fix" (applicable to 1969? See Jag-lovers forum) and an A123 ignition. Enjoy!

Re: Problematic shift into first gear when stopped
Replaced the master and slave cylinder, plus the flexible coupling of the clutch line. Not much better, so... Removed the engine.. Splined shaft bone dry. Release bearing completely worn out (previously observed). To his credit, a Jag mechanic I contacted suggested grabbing a can of spray lubricant ...

Re: Removing headrests
Likewise, I needed to remove the headrest on my series 2 OTS to replace the ratty covers. Wouldn't budge. Removed the staples from the base of the rear as others have described, opening it enough to get a look see with my trusty "torch". No spring steel clip was observed. The thing is apparently sim...

Re: Problematic shift into first gear when stopped
Bled the clutch twice, first with a vacuum bleeder, second using the "drip" method. No change. Dropped it off at the local shop, word is that the clutch slave cylinder is faulty and will be replaced. Place your bets!

Re: Problematic shift into first gear when stopped
Two more data points. When this issue occurs, indeed shifting into reverse is problematic. When moving the lever very slowly into reverse, can hear a slight grinding noise. Also discovered I can start off in second gear for a brief moment then successfully switch into first. So I guess the first thi...

Re: Problematic shift into first gear when stopped
Thanks, everyone. I ran this by a local British car mechanic, he suggested it could be a defective pilot bearing (pilot bush). Next time it happens I stop the engine and see if it slides into gear. Wonder how it can intermittently fail in this manner, unless perhaps it's completely trashed and the t...

Re: Problematic shift into first gear when stopped
Thank you for your reply. Tried that. Occasionally works. Other times I simply start in second gear. If one puts a moderate amount of pressure on the shift lever, it works but makes this awful grinding noise as it would if one were to downshift and force it into gear before the syncros spins up.. No...

Problematic shift into first gear when stopped
Occasionally, perhaps 5% of the time, transmission in my Series 2 refuses to shift into first gear when stopped. Otherwise it's working flawlessly. Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Series II -- sacrilege to use press in washer jets?
Thanks, everyone. Parts on order. Haven't yet opened up the dash to look at the job, but hoping I can fish the hose up (or down), attach the sprayer to the hose and fit it to the hole, tighten by twisting while holding the wingnut in place with a pair of hemostats. Not sure how to tighten the last b...

Interesting! I exchanged several messages with those folks while searching. They indicated several time they'd forward copies of maintenance records. Nothing ever showed up. I passed. Beautiful car.

Series II -- sacrilege to use press in washer jets?
Just got a beautiful new (to me) baby blue Series II. Noticed the entire windscreen spray system is missing! 'Have been reading about the joys of installing washer jets! Would it be sacrilege to simply install press in ones, such as these (would need to find ones that fit): https://www.ebay.com/i/11...
