Re: Exhaust
Steve.. he says that he has a 6 branch ss manifold, not cast original, appologies if I’m missing something here..
Re: Exhaust
I’d disagree with Steve with regards to aftermarket fit.. I have Hayward and Scott complete S/S system. The fit is exemplary no touching of the downpipes everything lines up. They use a jig when manufacturing for an A1 fit, it’s expensive (ish) system but worth every penny. As for performance when m...

Re: BEST ENGINE OIL!!
talking to Derek the then owner of JD classics, he told me that in their race cars and road cars nothing other than valvoline VR1 20:50.
I’ve never used anything else, I change it every 3/4k.
Outstanding oil

Re: 1964 3.8 Cylinder head temperature
Swindler… yes 20/50 valvoline VR1. Not seen it above 80 however since fitting the gauge (oil temp) I’ve only covered 250 miles, did a 180 mile round trip to the GRRC members meeting this weekend mostly motorway . No traffic.sat at 60/70 max.
I believe 85/95 c is ideal temp.

Re: 1964 3.8 Cylinder head temperature
Just to throw my hat in the ring.. I run throttle bodies so have an ecu working the fans, so I’d like to think it’s all very accurate. My fans come on at 80 degrees a little earlier than an otter switch I believe, that was my choice, 90 was the recommendation. In traffic they are on and off all the ...

Washer jet replacement..
Hi guys, unbelievably both the directional adjustment nozels have broken in the main body of my washer jets.
Only 2 years old! Should have used the 60 year old originals.
looks like a pig of a job, anyone got any advice on fitting them or maybe a clever remedy?
Thanks in advance

Re: New clutch issue, Series II
Obviously you’ve tried looking in the inspection hole with the car running and someone applying pressure on/off the clutch? Whatever the issue is you’re probably going to be doing it again! Grrrrr!! For what it’s worth, I had a throw out bearing well documented on hear completely disintegrate after ...

Re: LWE extended wishbone/technical help needed.
Wow guys.. !!! I’m lost on most of that above and really wishing I had taken more time in understanding this part of the build. Thinking I could just get the parts made and all the info was readily out there and available wasn’t as simple as I first believed. Anyhow… I’ve had a company (simply perfo...

Hi Guys.. I’m stuck here with a problem. I am currently building a semi lightweight E . After having RS panels make the panels and spending weeks welding and finishing it’s all looking nice n dandy, I am now left with the issue of getting the offset correct. The offset in the original lightweights c...

Hi guys, so doing a bit of upgrading on the e type 69ots. Noticed a bit of play on the rear wheel at the hub area. So holding the wheel (car in the air) at top and bottom (6 o’clock) I have 2mm of play in the wheel pulling from the top and pushing at the bottom.. My question is without stripping dow...

Hi.. I used polybush (red) on every bush on my car, the transformation is a great upgrade, def worth the extra expense and will out last all the other rubbish by years.
Rob Beere also sells a quality set of replacement bushes that i have used in the past.

Re: Toyota w58 gearbox
Thank you Stuart, that would make a more comftable cruising speed around 2000 Rpm @ 70. Steve, Richfield did the restoration on the speedo and rev counter, tbh a 200 Rpm discretion is prob negligible at best on a 60 year old unit, either the rev counter or speedo there’s always going to be room ther...
Re: Insurance
I can vouch for Peter James.. had an increase of £20 this year. Unlimited mileage and breakdown cover came in somewhere about £300.
Had a claim with them too few years back where some tosser rear ended my S1 !
Actually paid me to carry out the repair after JD classics quote bowled the accessor over !
