Re: Carpet fitting

It's a shame there isn't a book giving you the correct order to fit parts. Ie. Fitting nearside rear bumper before you fit the fuel tank.

Re: Cam timing 4.2 engine

Thanks guys. I will remove bolts on upper gear wheels put crank on TDC then remove large circlip and move the cams into position. Is that correct ? The only thing I can think of that happened when we removed the head before was that the upper chain moved a cog . I did not think it could though and y...

Re: Cam timing 4.2 engine

What we did was remove the head after putting safety nuts on the camshaft sprockets .When we reassembled the cams were not in the correct position assuming the chain did not move ? . When crank moved about 7mm on pointer the cams are oth lined up. Obviously chain must have moved a cog but I didn't t...

Re: S1 tyres catching front frame on full lock

The tyres fitted to this car are 185/80/VR15.
They only just touch but not right.
Everything on the front suspension is new so no play anywhere .
I would say catching only by 2-3 mm.

Re: New rebuilt engine - fill or not fill

Please make sure you put some oil down the plug hole and turn the engine over regularly. I am building an S1 4.2 for someone. The engine was rebuilt some years ago by someone else and the piston rings on the cylinders rusted a groove in the wall and it had to have three new liners. We only found out...

S1 tyres catching front frame on full lock

This 1966 S1 is a full build with unknown source of some parts including the steering rack. When we apply full lock the inside edge of the tyre catches the lower part of the front frame on the bit that sticks out of the tubular frame. By the way the car is on axle stands and it has a new front frame...

Re: IRS Stands, Diff-Half shafts, Shimming, IRS rubbers, IRS brake-pipes, all things IRS.

I use a quad bike lift to raise the car at the rear .you first need two blocks of wood on it to clear the exhausts .Mine I use a hammer gun on the nut for lifting and it is very stable .

Re: S1 4.4 gear selection

Thanks very much for your help . This rebuild has been I nightmare . After fitting engine and box then firing up we could not get it to idle below 1200 . Found out low compression on 3 cylinders. The owner had the engine professionaly rebuilt 10 years ago but not turned over during intervening perio...
