My car has a very similar noise. I know it is a very minor leak in the exhaust manifold. When the car warms up it goes away.

Cooling fans
I am using a standard radiator and an electric fan fron a scrap yard, Vauxhall I think. Cost ?10. I mounted it under the original bracket and it lines up with the cowl on the radiator perfectly. It has a rim on the outside of the blades that is about an inch smaller than the hole in the cowl. Looks ...

Low compression
Hi all, I have one cylinder ( number 5 ) that is running very weak. Number 6 is just on the weak side of OK. I have done a compression check, 140 and with oil on the rings 150 psi. I dont think this is low enough for a valve to be not seating enough / burnt to give me a weak mixture. I think the pro...

Wilwood caliper problems
Morning everybody. I have fitted a pair of Dynalite callipers to the front of my Series 1. The calipers I have do not have anti rattle springs, and the pads, ( Mintex, correct ones for the calipers ), rattle up and down in the calliper. You wouldnt believe the noise they make up to about 30mph . Has...

Alternator upgrade
Hi , I have a 45 amp alternator on my series 1 2+2, probably off an old ford escort. Has anyone found a bigger one off some easily available car that I can use without much modification? The shaft sizes are different on lots of them and it makes swapping the pulleys difficult without a lathe.

Filter King
Hi , I have heard that a 'lumpy' tickover can be vastly improved by using a filter king regulator. Do any of you have experience of one , if so which one? My engine is in good condition and the carbs have been to Burlen for the full treatment but I still have a lumpy tickover.

Thanks Andy, yes the frustrating thing is having something that should work but it wont. If its half broken and wont work then thats it. As I said the volvo brakes are back on now 'till I sort out whats wrong with the Wilwood set up. I have never seen anyone else with either the Volvo or Wilwood bra...

Wilwood brakes / performance upgrades
Hi Andy, I have done all that, lined them up on the centre of the disc and within 0.010" parallel to the disc. Even tried taking them off their bracket and just letting them clamp around the disc unrestrained just in case something was twisted. Just the same , they flexed outwards. Do you have 1,3/4...
