Re: Oil pressure, one more round

Try clamping off the bypass return hose from the filter to the sump. That'll show if you've got a leaking prv, worked a treat on mine.

Re: Center console, originality

For a '64 the instrument panel & the speaker grill panels should be black. The radio panel, console centre top & sides should be leather, same colour as other interior trim.

So how do you get access to treat inside the frame rails?

Re: Tracing an E-Type Series 3 for a friend

Search by chassis/vin on xkedata.com, you might find it there, or other cars close to it.

Re: Special Bolt but unknown part number or purpose

Radius arm rear bush to wish bone. The thin head is recessed into the wish bone to clear the pivot shaft moulding of the hub carrier. Must be fitted before the hub carrier is connected to the wish bone.

I would think it bolts to the header tank bracket which is rubber mounted so not earthed.

Re: Routing of Front Wiring Harness Engine Bay - experiences of others ?

I did mine generally following the same route as you. I can't quite see how you crossed the picture frame from left to right, did you go along the bottom frame or the top. I've seen some pictures going along the bottom but to my mind it exposes it to too much dirt & grime, I went along the underside...

Re: Can anyone identify this piece of trim for me (non Jag)

Looks like XK140/150 boot lid trim. If it's non Jag it has a look of Lancia to it.

Had this on my 3.8, it was the LT Lucar connecter to the side of the distributor, had to wiggle it a bit to get it to start again.

Re: Rear Hatch Interior Trim

Mine was missing so I don't know how it was originally done but I used batting for padding , glued to the board all over. The vinyl is only glued at the back where it folds over the edge of the board. Along the top edge it's not glued to the board but folded over & glued to the lip of the glass open...

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting

Don't want to get into a needless spat but the bonnet is a huge floppy thing. Nws the taper, on a lot of E's you can clearly see a bulge if you follow the reflection lines down the sides. The inner metal flanges are very narrow over the picture frame & imo can easily deflect there.

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting

I had the same problem. I've come to the conclusion that it's caused by the cantilever springs imperceptably bending the nose area down as it tries to lift the rear of the bonnet. Structurally the weakest point of the bonnet is a line across near the top of the wheel arch in line with the picture fr...

Re: Series 1.5 carburettor setting

Hi Alan, did you remove or refit the trottle plates from the shafts? If those are slightly off center, rotated in the slot or reversed fitted, they won't close properly allowing a sliver of air to bypass the plate, significantly increasing idle speed. Hold the carb up to the light with the throttle ...

Re: Gearbox cover Seal

On my 64 3.8 with the steel cover I used generic self adhesive door seal stuck around the edge of the tunnel opening, works well.
