Re: Sports exhaust

A true 'straight through' silencer design is a single perforated tube from one end to the other surrounded by fibrous wadding much like the E-Type's original resonators. Drilling the baffles will alter the sound and allow freer flow of exhaust gases but no idea what affect it will have on performanc...

Re: Sports exhaust

You can go with a full mild steel system (P D Gough in Nottingham have original patterns) and they do sound superb. I had a mild steel exhaust on my Elan S4 and it lasted from 1995 and is still going strong I believe. Rust is not a problem on a classic car which will only have selective use and a mi...

Re: Otter switch earth?

The wiring loom should have two wires going to the Otter switch, one of which (black) is the earth. This is a 3.8 which has the Otter switch on the top of the header, 4.2 cars have it on the front of the header tank. https://i.imgur.com/j8Szd1E.jpg You can see the two spade connectors on the Otter i...

Re: Exhaust

If you have tubular manifolds you need to fit a heat shield to protect the frames otherwise you will bubble the paint. They also produce a lot of noise including an annoying pinging sound on tick-over. More importantly the cause a torque dip between 2,250 and 2,750 rpm, the very point in an E-Type w...

Re: Add YouTube videos to your posts

YouTube links starting with https generally won't display but if you change it to http it usually will. I think it also depends on what the clips author has their preferences set to. In any event a YouTube clickable link will work.

Re: Headlamp surrounds screw thread size?

Unfortunately for those of us who do not use a VPN to hide behind or get round controls, David’s link goes nowhere interesting - just a thread of purple screens. "Nowhere interesting" - really? :banghead: All the information is in the text not in the purple picture eater: The chrome finisher assemb...

Re: Attention....loss of Images

The VPN issue is a sideshow; the critical resource for the forum is its IP and that's embodied in the data and images posted by everyone. If we choose to give ownership of that IP away to Third Party sites to host that data for free we loose control and become hostage to fortune to their inevitable...

Re: Attention....loss of Images

Joy of joys, the Government have now decided to ban or limit the use of VPN's by everyone. I have employed some 11 year olds to devise a work around! Smart DNS or Proxy Servers I think. Whatever happened to parent responsibility? Mobile phones cost upward of £500 so it must be parents gifting these ...

Re: AVATAR QUESTION

How did you do that??? I can fix my car with my eyes closed, but this?!?!? There was no way of removing the metadata stored with your photo so I went old school. I opened your photo and took a photo of it (actually a screen grab). Adjusted the size to meet Forum requirements and saved it, hence no ...

Re: AVATAR QUESTION

Success! Try using this resized photo for your avatar (right mouse click photo and save to your device, edit your UCP with the new image). Although you resized it correctly the original metadata remained saying you took the photo on 21 April and the size was 800x600, which confused the Forum softwar...

Re: AVATAR QUESTION

Hi Steve Something weird going on with your photo as no matter which way I resize it the Forum still sees it as 800x 600 pixels. My guess is the metadata associated with the photo is over riding the new settings. I will look into it further and see if I can strip ou the metadata. I will get back to ...

Clearly MP's and Civil Servants are enthusiatic members of our Forum  Only three days after I mentioned the use of GPS jammers to facilitate car theft the Government are introducing legislation to ban them: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-considers-ban-on-owning-signal-jamming-devices-u...

Re: STOLEN BRG S3 FHC MANUAL with WEBASTO

Unfortunately the other trackers use GPS and the first thing thieves do is put a GPS jammer (sorry, privacy curtain as they are now known) in the car. https://www.jammer-store.com/gp5000-car-use-gps-jammer-blocker.html The Pebblebee, Tile and AirTag devices use Bluetooth to contact nearby phones (in...

Re: STOLEN BRG S3 FHC MANUAL with WEBASTO

Chuck a Pebblebee tracker in the car. They are about £30 each, no subscription and are hugely effective. We have them in our luggage, car keys, purse and wallet. Great at airport as we can track our luggage being loaded/unloaded on the plane! Works with Android or Apple and easily hidden in a car wi...
