Rear hub removal

It is possible to remove a rear hub assembly while the suspension is under the car? Or does the rear suspension need to be dropped to remove a hub. I may have a hub bearing going bad.
Thanks

Re: 4.2 vs 3.8 Cylinder Head Question

Ok thanks for the replies. The big question now becomes do SU carbs bolt onto the US XJ6 Stromberg manifold? I’ve always wondered about that when looking at my ‘71 E-type with Strombergs. I’ve had my eye out looking for a 3.8 intake and carb setup for quite a while and they just don’t show up here, ...

Re: 4.2 vs 3.8 Cylinder Head Question

Thanks Steve. That seems to be the common sense answer. Match the cooling passages to whatever intake I would be using. Speaking of intakes, I like this twin carb intake. I think it would look good on a C-type replica. Does anyone recognize it? Mark https://i.postimg.cc/mDrQCpk1/604-CC8-EF-10-DE-4-C...

4.2 vs 3.8 Cylinder Head Question

Good evening, My ‘68 E-type has a 4.2 bottom end from a ‘67 Mk10, with a 3.8 E-type cylinder head and 4.2 type triple SU carbs and manifold. I have a rebuilt 4.2 E-type head I am in the process of swapping onto the engine. When pulling the intake manifold I discovered the plugged round water passage...

Re: Interior Questions

On my S2 OTS with radio, no a/c, I must move the radio tower away so the center instrument panel will open completely. I can do it by hand since there is only one nut holding the radio console in place on the lower forward edge of both sides, then it pulls away.

Re: Speedo and taqcho refurb

I’ve used the Spiyda kit in the tachometer of both of my S2 cars. It is fairly easy to do and works very well.

Re: 'Ticking' engine

I also have a ticking noise in my 4.2 E-type. It has an early head with small valve clearances and the first thing I did was check valve adjustment. If the car had lifters I’d swear that is what it sounds like. The cam bucket guides on the exhaust side have had the retainer plates installed. After a...

Re: Series 2 differential ratio

I did put a 2.88 in my E-type OTS and I am happy with the results. I changed from a 3.54 diff, but I am limited in choices here in the US. I do agree that if you live in a hilly area with a lot of uphill starts the 2.88 might be too tall, but overall I am pleased with the spread between the gears, a...

And take the opportunity to add remote brake bleeders to the calipers while everything is accessible.

Re: Slow or Low reading Tachometer

My car presently has a Mallory points type distributor, which I will be replacing with an original distributor after I have it rebuilt. I also need to add back the vacuum port and line for the distributor. A previous owner deleted all of that.

Re: Slow or Low reading Tachometer

I’ve fixed the problem by installing the Spiyda kit which replaces the electric components inside the tachometer. It works perfectly. Now I know I’ve been shifting at 3500 to 4000 rpm by sound!

Result!

Slow or Low reading Tachometer

The tachometer on my ‘68 OTS reads slow, or should I say won’t go past 2500 or so rpm. It seems to be fairly accurate up to that point but won’t progress further up the scale regardless of engine speed. Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes! I had mine out today also, but a bit warmer than where you are. Sixty degrees and the top down, running it through the gears down the back country roads. Perfect.

Re: OTS Interior Light Wiring Missing

Good afternoon, I did some digging into the left side of the trunk compartment; removed trim panels, etc. I found the lead to the interior lamp but it exited the harness very far back in the car near the gas tank filler -too far to ever reach the lamp. I cut into the harness wrap up where the lamp w...

Re: OTS Interior Light Wiring Missing

Yes Simon, your assumption is correct. The routing you mention makes the most sense. The harness is visible where it comes into the trunk and along the side but I can’t see a lead coming off it to the bulkhead lamp. I will take a closer look.

Thanks you

OTS Interior Light Wiring Missing

Good afternoon, I finally got around to checking why the interior light doesn’t work on my series 2 convertible, besides the bulb being missing. The switch has power in and out, with the correct color wires, so I pulled the interior lamp housing out to check it and there is no wiring to it. Can anyo...

Re: Refurbishing door handles/locks

Hello, I stumbled across your question whilst looking into trunk lock information about my car, which is a ‘68 OTS. The right and left door lock keys are different from one another and are sequential in the lock codes. I have the two original keys for the door locks. Nice to see my car is not alone ...
