crank seal upgrade to 4.2 series 1.5 E type

Dear E type followers, I've just had 6 weeks of torment trying to fit an upgraded crank seal from SCParts which was not provided with any instructions. Now I can say I'm very happy with the result having resolved the interferance of the sump and flywheel issues. I can forward photos to anyone wishin...

Engine block paint

Dear readers, I'm renovating my xk engine from my 68 FHC e type and wondering whether I should paint the engine block BMC green as I have a tin of high temperature enamel. It could look pretty good as the car is BRG. Would this be a cardinal sin or shall I procure a tin of black enamel instead??? Th...

update

Hello again,
I've installed the distributor drive and checked position by trial fitting the distributor with the rotor arm lined up to the no 6 piston spark plug on the dizzy cap. that should do it!

XJ6 head

Thank you for the head advice. Yes my engine certainly does pull well but you can never have enough! It still falls short of my 2.0 Tdci Mondeo etc. I've just disassembled the existing head and found lots of carbon deposition on the rear of the valves presumably from valve stem oil leaks. At least c...

XJ6 Series 3 head upgrade??

Hello, I recently got married in September and managed to get my series 1.5 back on the road 2 days before the big day- albeit with a stripped out interior and a blow over temporary respray! I'm about to declare the car SORN and continue renovation over the winter. My question: I've been given a big...

Hello Stretoo,
can you please tell me what big bore system you installed and whether I should also replace the cast manifolds with tubular? I've been thinking about this for some time.
Thanks for any advice.

Extractor exhausts

Thank you David for your comprehensive reply and sorry for my late reply!. My wedding and other matters got in the way.... I think I'll got with the big bore system and standard manifolds as you suggest. I just wish I could hear these systems before buying! I've also aquired a series 3 big valve hea...

4.2 etype extractor exhaust query

Hi, I'm new to this forum but am currently renovating a running 68 FHC e type series 1.5. The engine I wish to keep in basic state of tune to preserve fuel economy and low down torque. I would however like to make the exhaust sound a little more representative of a classic sports car without being t...
