Re: Series 3 Clutch master cylinder replacement
Hi Andrew. Thanks for the feedback. I have removed the clutch master cylinder and stripped it down. The actuator rod is retained by a circlip and has a domed head where it mates with the clutch hydraulic piston. Assume all aftermarket items are of a similar design? A previous attempt (another outfit...

Re: Series 3 speedo drive oil leak
Hi Bill, Thanks for taking time to give such a detailed explanation of the work required to cure this oil leak - much appreciated. I have had a good day on the car today and found that with judicious application of vice grips with protection, this does free the brass barrel nut. This has released th...

Series 3 Clutch master cylinder replacement
Hi All. The clutch master cylinder is leaking and needs replacement. An attempt has been made (by others) to fit a seal kit, but this has been unsuccessful. The current unit has the fork (which attaches to the clutch pedal) swaged onto the actuator rod, so is it recommended to replace like with like...

Series 3 speedo drive oil leak
Hi All. Am in the middle of curing a few oil leaks on my Series 3 car. The steering rack was leaking fluid and has been removed and sent to Kiley-Clinton for a refurbishment. Meanwhile, I am trying to tackle the fairly substantial oil leak from the speedo drive. First problem is removing the knurled...

Re: Replacing the rubber A post door seals
Hi Geoff, Andrew and Marek, Thanks for taking time to give a detailed reply and it sounds as though you have all had doors off at some stage. The reason for the replacement is that the rubber seal is perishing (the rear screen is currently out of the car)... that's what 40 years in Arizona does to r...

Re: Replacing the rubber A post door seals
Hi Simon, Thanks for the reply. I can peel an orange in my pocket with one hand but the A post seal has got me stumped. The B post seal (at the back of the door) is fairly accessible and I have replaced that seal, but I can't see how their is any access to the A post seal on the hinge section of the...

Replacing the rubber A post door seals
Hi All, Currently contemplating replacing the A post seals on my Series3 2+2. All seems straightforward until it comes to the door section. Is there a special technique in fitting the seal in the area around the door hinges? Are there special tools that help feed the seal into the channel in this 'd...

Re: Series 3 Replacement mast for electric aerial
Hi ColIn, Many thanks for your help with the aerial. I let the thread run a little while to see if there were any others in a similar situation. It seems we have gone down a similar path and it sounds like the Jaguar aerial you have suggested would be the one to go for. Thanks again for your help. P...

Series 3 Replacement mast for electric aerial
Hi All, The electric aerial has failed on my S3 2+2. The mast no longer extends although the motor can be heard to be turning. Without removing the whole assembly, I am hoping a replacement mast would cure the problem. Speaking to two or three suppliers, the part number for the replacement mast is J...

Re: Another new one into the fold!
Managed to find a good car in the US from a dry state and am shipping it over now. Currently deciding whether to convert to RHD. Here's a few photos of the car. Regards, Phil.

Re: Series3 LHD to RHD conversion - DIY task?
Thanks Geoff, Garry and John for your feedback. It's good to know there are owners out there with this level of experience. I may try to get the A/C working in LHD configuration and have a drive with the car in LHD, and then move forward to the RHD option. Appreciate all the feedback.
Thanks, Phil.
Thanks, Phil.

Re: Series3 LHD to RHD conversion - DIY task?
Hi AussieEtype - Thanks for your suggestions on the air conditioning and great to consider the system could be saved in RHD format albeit with a bit of head scratching and some considered fabrication. With our moderate climate in the UK ( it was 30 degrees C yesterday!) a working aircon system is no...

Re: Series3 LHD to RHD conversion - DIY task?
Hi Geoff and Andrew, Many thanks for your replies and suggested positions. Yes, I have hit it with a hammer in the past and personally observed a few low flying spanners. I also recently saw a few sockets! In truth, I have adjustable ramps and jacks, but sadly no 4 post lift in my garage and no work...

Series3 LHD to RHD conversion - DIY task?
Hi All. While my LHD S3 2+2 is on the oceans coming over from the US, I have started considering the option of converting to RHD. There is a debate over whether to keep LHD for originality, although currently leaning towards the conversion. (rather than driving in the ditch ... as the previous owner...

Another new one into the fold!
Hi All, Just introducing myself as a new member of the forum. I have already scanned the posts on the forum and I am amazed at the knowledge base here at the club and the depth of work that is taken on by all the owner restorers. It feels like no task or query does not have an answer within these wa...
