done several tests
Thank you very much for all the suggestions, here's what I've tested thus far - the car shift from 3rd to 2nd, at speed when the lever is moved to L (engine revs higher, rpm goes up). Doing the stall test, in D1 showed about 2100 rpm, as opposed to the earlier suggested 1700. Also, when the car shif...

P.S.
Could it be that the converter is not locking? or that the car is shifting from 1st to 2nd, and what seems like a shift to 3rd is actually the converter locking, but the car is not really going into 3rd gear? The shift from "2nd" to "3rd" only seems to drop 500 rpm. How does one check for that?

High revving automatic - what's wrong?
Can anyone weigh in on the following issue: A '68 2+2 has to rev to 4000 rpm just to keep up with 65 mph traffic. The transmission seemingly works ok in other respects, as in, it shifts and drives in reverse, the same for D2 and the two gears there, and all the three gears in D1 without noise or any...

Replacing A/C vents - HOW?
Has anyone ever replaced the air conditioning vents, or knows how to do so for the a/c unit that has the five slim vents? They don't simply pop out and there does not seem to be an obvious way of taking them out and putting new ones in, short of dismantling the a/c housing. Thank you for any advice ...

Problem solved
Thank you for all the advice, here's what happened to anyone interested or anyone who may experience this in the future: As suggested, I replaced the 123 with the old mechanical distributor, and although it did not run as well, it did rev past 4000. That cleared up some other potential culprits, and...

123 ignition - is there a rev limiter?
Has anyone ever experienced what feels like a rev-limiter on a 123 ignition distributor? The unit when installed functions as it should, until the car approaches 3900-4000 rpm, when it starts to buckle and stutter, and feels very much like there's a rev limiter kicking in. The issue is not progressi...

Master Brake cylinder rebuild question + part search help
Could anyone please advise where one may find a ''rectangular section plastic bearing'' for rebuilding the master brake cylinder on a '68 2+2. I've taken it apart, and it appears that there's not one inside, seemingly missing from the previous rebuild. I'm thinking it should probably be put together...

Correct fuel pressure for twin Zenith-Stromburgs
Does anyone know the correct required fuel pressure for a twin Stromburg set up? The OEM fuel pump has been replaced with an aftermarket one, the car runs too rich and throws fuel out the tailpipe, trying to remedy situation one step at a time. That's not to say that the carbs and everything else is...

Removing the emissons control system
On a 1968, US ZenithStromberg car - there's an emissions control unit going from the rear exhaust manifold over the engine and back into the carbs. When installing an aftermarket exhaust system with new headers, how does one eliminate the issue of the emissions control unit? Can you simply unbolot t...

Thank you all for your replies and suggestions. Compression test showed fairly even results across all cylinders, with the outliers at 150 and 162 and the rest in the high 150's. I have not swapped the wires to see if the issue goes from cylinder to cylinder, but will do so next chance I get. Thank ...

Tony - I will check for the exhaust heat next time I'm at the car. Thank you, by the way, for that common sense tip that I completely overlooked. As far as the distributo itself, does the lack of the vacuum advance produce a raised eyebrow ? All of the replacement part pictures for E-type distributo...

Does this distributor look right?
Gentlemen - any advice on the following would be greatly appreciated. This is a recently purchased 1968 4.2 automatic, on which I'm trying to work out the gremlins. The car starts from cold great but idles very roughly and misfires. Does not want to restart when engine is warm untill it cools a bit....

What's the "map light" size
Could anyone help with correct bulb type and size for the bulb used under the top of the dash, for the so called map light. Where would one be able to find such an item? Thank you.
