Re: Etype Series 2 Radiator Fan Connections

So I think I’ve managed to find a good photo from a original car

So based on this black wire (earth) goes to the terminal marked 2, Black wire with green stripe (Live)to terminal 1. Hope this will help someone with a similar query.

Re: Etype Series 2 Radiator Fan Connections

Hi Marek,

I had a look at the wiring diagram and it doesn’t say. Just wondering if anyone has an original motor could have a quick look. I should have taken a picture but I just disconnected them without thinking.

Etype Series 2 Radiator Fan Connections

Hi All, Does anyone know the correct way to connect the fan motors on a series 2. I have the original Lucas ones and they have a 1 and 2 in the 2 spade connectors on the motor but I’m not sure which should be connected to the black with green stripe wire (live) and which should be connected to the e...

Cylinder Head Nut Torque Spec E-Type Series 2

Hi Folks, Quick question on the correct cylinder head nut torque for a 1969 Series 2 E Type, it's the long stud block so after 7R1916 engine. In Haynes it says 54 lb/ft but maybe 58 lb/ft if you are using a composite gasket (I'm using a Payen composite gasket). However in a Jaguar service bulletin i...

Handbook and Documents

Hi All, I’ve been collecting the handbook and docs for my 1969 Series 2, was originally LHD US car but now RHD UK, am I missing any from the UK pack that the car would have come with? Thanks for your help. Rob. https://i.postimg.cc/mgc2d0y4/IMG-3208.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/pdbhKWb4/IMG-3066.jpg

Re: SU HD8 Throttle Plate Seal and tolerance

Just put the carb back on tonight and………success! Idling now able to be brought down to 700rpm using the idle air screws so must have a nice seal at the throttle. Interesting how what looked like a small gap (Less than 2 thou mainly 1 thou) could have such an impact from one carb. Hope this might hel...

Re: SU HD8 Throttle Plate Seal and tolerance

Just to clarify the picture is of a good second hand carb body with a new shaft and throttle plate fitted. It appeared that the carb body I had had possibly been somehow distorted so it was no longer round hence the throttle plate didn’t fit.

The restoration team tried a few different options including new shaft, throttle plate including slightly oversize versions but to no av...

Re: SU HD8 Throttle Plate Seal and tolerance

So quick update, the carb body has been sent off to Burlen for rebushing, new spindle and throttle plate including a vacuum test. When it returns I’ll take a photo and measure the tolerance so hopefully we’ll get a definitive answer to the question.

Re: SU HD8 Throttle Plate Seal and tolerance

Just out of interest here’s what one looks like against the same light which will clamp a 0.04mm feeler gauge all round, just the tiniest bit of light near the spindle.

Re: SU HD8 Throttle Plate Seal and tolerance

Thanks Richard, the spindles have minimal movement in them but you are right this might be my main option as I expect if I put it back on whilst it will be a little better than before it probably will continue to be an issue. Out of interest how much did they charge per carb for the work?

Re: SU HD8 Throttle Plate Seal and tolerance

Hi, I’ve reached out to the refurbisher but no joy yet and tried reversing the plate and the gap I got was the best I could achieve. Have followed the full carb set up process per the manual with throttle linkages disengaged, ensuring fast idle screw was clear and the springs are in good condition a...

SU HD8 Throttle Plate Seal and tolerance

Hi I’m hoping some experts can help me with the maximum tolerance I can live with on the throttle plate seal of the rear HD8 carb on my series 2 e type. The carbs were a refurbed set and generally have been done very nicely and the engine runs fine but I can’t get idle below 1050 rpm. I’ve eliminate...

Re: Series 2 Bonnet Fasteners - Originality Question

Thanks Phil,

So I'm not going crazy, my nearside wheelarch was as you describe but had been disturbed at some point and I thought they had removed the oval washers from the inside! I shall return it to the correct original round washers.

Thank you,

Rob.

Re: Series 2 Bonnet Fasteners - Originality Question

Hi Phil,

Thanks so much, I think that's how mine was before I took it apart so that is so helpful. The only other question I have is on the same fasteners in the wheelarch itself, are they also the same with some oval and some with plain washers. Love the original sticker as well.

Hi, I'm looking for a little help, I'm about to get the underside of my bonnet resprayed and would really appreciate it if anyone could post some pictures of the correct original fasteners and washers for the inner wheelarch. I have a mixture of oval washers on some bolts and plain on others althoug...
