Re: Fan Troubles…
Thank you Geoff. Is this considered superior to the aftermarket options with SNG Barratt and other suppliers? I also see CoolCat’s note stating “We always stock spares, but if you need one "on the road", the following parts interchange: Mitusbishi MB007639, GM 12337506, AC Delco C1808, Standard TS14...

Re: Fan Troubles…
Geoff, I’ll try to reiterate/simplify: the otter does it’s job (on and off as it should), and then stops doing its job and becomes unresponsive. I’ve owned the car two weeks, and it seems now that from cold start until 10 minutes of driving all is well … then temp pegs and fans are off. Now that I’v...

Re: Help with timing.
The bolt was thoroughly loosened. It wouldn’t budge, and I didn’t want to resort to excessive force if I was missing a critical step.
As for searching/advanced searching, the results were many, and not what I was looking for.

Help with timing.
I have some rookie questions on timing… I have a 1969 E, 4.2 OTS. I loosened the one bolt at the base of the distributor … it won’t budge. What am I missing? As I understand it my distributor is fitted with a vacuum retard, whereas the hose nipple faces the radiator. Is this removed for initial timi...

Re: Fan Troubles…
My “no fans” situation is solved, but I’m back to my original issue of the fans cutting out after a bit. To recap my relay issue: in cleaning all of my connections I incorrectly wired the relay. Now fixed. Face meets palm. It appears my root cause may be the otter. From a cold start the otter kicks ...

Fan Troubles…
New E Type owner here. Fans won’t turn on at all. They had previously worked, but it seems after a short test drive around the neighborhood they would stop. The otter bypass worked initially, but now it doesn’t. So I’m focusing on the relay, and want to bypass it safely… The relay’s Black/Green conn...

Re: Model Year Production Dates
Well said Phil. Thank you for the response.
It ought to be a hoot debating this with our Motor Vehicle Commission when I insist that they correct the title.

Model Year Production Dates
My new xke was manufactured November 13, 1969, and was sold as a 1969. The title says 1970. Which is correct?
While I’m nostalgic for the 60’s I’d rather tell those that ask the correct model year.
Thanks in advance.

Re: New Owner, First Day Out Woes
I think I found the root cause ... the connections to the ballast resistor were significantly corroded/oxidized. Connections all cleaned up, along with those of the otter switch to address the fans cutting out, and initial tests seem to be good. Cap, rotor, and coil appeared new, though probably ins...

Re: New Owner, First Day Out Woes
The fact you have a flamethrower rather than points does not affect the potential rotor arm problem . However, the other failures are significant, and point more to a low tension side problem Thanks Christopher. You're right. Probably best to just replace cap and rotor. I'll add that I started it a...

Re: New Owner, First Day Out Woes
Brian, a couple of things. Please do not use quotes too much Noted. Edited my previous quotes. So to sum up/clarify symptoms and approach: I appear to have some electrical issues. Fans stopped running, Fuel pressure may have dropped/stopped, and tachometer stopped (forgot to mention that one). All ...

Re: New Owner, First Day Out Woes
Brian, welcome to the best place for all things E Type... Thanks for the warm welcome Geoff. A service manual is incoming. I will be pouring through the knowledge section today. I should clarify that the second time I went to start after fueling up the motor would crank, would sound like it was tur...

Re: New Owner, First Day Out Woes
Welp, a quick change of fate and symptoms… I went out to check the fuel pump, and I heard it pressurize. Gave it a go, turned the starter, and it’s running. So I would think I have a heat-related electrical problem (?). Not going anywhere away from home until I figure out what’s going on. Again, gui...

New Owner, First Day Out Woes
Greetings all, I’m a new owner of a 1969 OTS. I purchased it as a running solid fixer-upper. Today was my first test drive out. I kept my expectations low, driving around near home, and planned for the possibility of having to flatbed it home. I kept my eyes on the oil pressure and water temp. Timin...
