Re: Smell in cockpit of S3 OTS

Quite a late answer , but I had this problem on my S3 OTS, mainly when driving top up and driver window slightly open. The major issue is turbulence of airflow and exhaust coming back in the cockpit. S3 also usually leaks oil from the valve covers to the exhaust manifolds, originating nasty fumes. I...

Re: Ported vacuum advance vs manifold vacuum advance

Dear all, Philip, Marek , I came across this thread with a couple of years delay :geek2: Very interesting explanation and discussion :thankyouyellow: . One question remains unanswered though, for those willing to add advance (in my case S3, I had long removed retard). It seems to me that there must ...

Re: series 3 pcv questions

Indeed Marek, too rich fuel on the A Bank when idling - but I had previously ruled out the choke during previous tests as I had disconnected the pipe connecting the chokes on the 2 carbs and still spark plugs in all A-Bank cylinders were fouling and no change to CO2 levels. Only one thing to do: car...

Re: series 3 pcv questions

Indeed Marek, very well observed as usual :-) All the carbs are the same, but as I reported some time ago I do have a problem of over rich mixture on the A bank, with the spark plugs fouling mostly when idling while in the B Bank spark plugs are always nice. And I can't set the mixture any leaner on...

Re: series 3 pcv questions

The “metering devices” that you refer to, shown on the diag. as “orifices”, I’ve always imagined that these are how the system was crudely calibrated/balanced so that flow was not all through one carb. I had to disassemble the pipes connecting the carburetors to the crankcase ventilation. There are...

Re: Starter motor not disengaging

Hi Bob, Reading this with delay , after having installed a new high-torque starter from Lucas. I reported all works here https://forums.jag-lovers.com/t/r-i-p-lucas-starter-v12-i/426208/26 some time ago. Meanwhile if you say the starters all had 9 teeth, then the starter i got from SNG back in 2011 ...

Re: Starter motor not disengaging

Hello, My starter died and I am working on replacing it by a high-torque unit I bought 10 yrs ago at SNG Barratt but never installed. That Unit is the same as the one shown by 'ole-xke', but it has the plate adjusted at a different angle . https://i.postimg.cc/mZN8zRsJ/IMG-20221010-224154.jpg Howeve...

Re: Tachometer unresponsive or sporadic

I had an issue with the tachometer (S3) , it behaved erratically , sometimes not at all. I have a Petronix ignition system. I went a long way to find the reason, changing condensers etc in the tachometer to no avail. Inside there is a small IC from Texas Instruments that eventually stops working. Yo...

Re: Ball bearing for output differential series 3 - Help needed

Many thanks Steve, I will check with Alan. My Differential is in such a good shape (or at least it seems) that it will be a shame replacing it for any other unit, also because the car is so original . I will contact Alan , I was in contact with Roger a couple of years ago on EFI transformations. (PS...

Re: Tacho Not Working

It may well be the tachometer. In case it is, the tachometer has a Integrated Circuit from Texas Instruments which is not produced any longer and it may breakdown. I retrofitted the tachometer with a device you can get from spiyda.com, in the UK,, attached to the back of the case and it has been wor...

Barry,

Did you get your car ready ? I would appreciate some hints / photos of the loom routing, I am also planning to do the same.

Many thanks

Re: Kickdown solenoid connector access

Thank you Bob and 'goodoldgranddad', i went through the same saga and thanks to this thread and the photos I managed to replace the kickdown wire o-ring, redress the sump flanges and install a new gasket. All should be ok but i now realised that it leaks from the selector shaft. Have you tried to ch...

You should get your car registered at the JDC, 70euro/year and then get insured at MARCH Classic cars - you will pay 125euoro for your first classic and 25 for each additional one.

Keep me in the loop for any drive around, I have a e-type V12 form 73 and live in Auderghem

@Gary : thanks, also Roger Bywayer told me something similar, and there is an article on the AJS engineering site. Indeed with fuel injection everything becomes easy controllable. @Pete: will make a test in a few weeks/month when will have some time and will report back. Thanks ! BTW on a more impor...

There is a fuel loop indeed but it has a T to feed the carbs, so enough to replace the bottom part of the T with a loop fit with a XJ6 LH fuel return valve so fuel can be controlled with a switch. This is actually the only modification needed on the fuel delivery part. As for the opening of the thro...

Driving a V12 on a single bank (6 cyl)

Jaguar did some testing in the early 70's to try reducing the fuel consumption of the V12 running on carbs, recall the engine was supposed to have had fuel injection BRICO from the beginning. One of the trials involved running the V12 on a single bank. Today I went for a short ride after having remov...

They go through the inlet manifolds to the exhaust ports. Air is injected on the outlet ports therefore not changing the mixture in any way.
