Re: '71, 4.2, S II brake fluid reservoir, heat shield

I see I accidently posted the same question twice, but can't figure out how to delete the second one.
Sorry,
Mike

'71, 4.2, S II brake fluid reservoir, heat shield

Just received a replacement from Moss, part # 30735 (same part number at Barratt), which states "for cars with factory power steering." The short leg of the "L", however, contacts the PS reservoir, preventing the shield from dropping into place. Moss says it should fit, but it absolutely will not wo...

Re: Cooling fans always on?

Thanks, all, for your help! I'm learning a lot. don't have a maintenance manual yet, and I'm no mechanic, but have a friend (TR2 owner) that is, so maybe I can ask him for some help doing the conversion.

Re: Cooling fans always on?

Believe I've found the otter switch on the replacement radiator, although it doesn't appear to be connected. Tough to see with the the clamshell hood. I only see one spade connector in the center of the switch? I've recently been able to contact the previous owner of 40 years, who confirmed that he ...

Re: Cooling fans always on?

Thanks everyone. I have verified through documents that were included with the car that the stock radiator was replaced and there is no sign of an "otter" switch on the new one. Also, no manual override switch found. Other than the additional wear and tear on the fans, is their any harm in letting t...

Cooling fans always on?

The engine cooling fans on my 1970 S2, come on with the ignition switch, and remain on until the switch is turned off. This seemed odd to me, thinking that they should be thematically controlled, and I assumed that the fans had been "hot wired" by a previous owner. Something that I read on this foru...

Re: Emissions equipment

Upon closer inspection, I see that my Facet type pump is already mounted on "rubber bobbins", so probably nothing remains to make this pump quieter.
Thanks for your suggestions,
Mike

Re: Emissions equipment

Thanks, John. If I wanted to replace the pump with one that doesn't click, what would you recommend?

Re: Emissions equipment

Here is my fuel pump, which John suggested I post a photo of to help identify. It runs (clicks) continually when the ignition is on. Makes no difference whether the engine is running or not. I can detect no fuel leaks.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Emissions equipment

Thanks, John. I just noticed the constant clicking recently, but I suppose it could have been there for the 500 miles I've owned the car. My hearing is far from perfect. Is there some way for an AMATURE to tell which type of pump I have?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Emissions equipment

Thanks so much for your informative response, Bob. I'm thinking of removing the pinched off pipe work, and pluging the openings left at the carbs, just to clean up the appearance. Regarding the carb needles, the engine starts and runs fine, but I'm only getting about 14 MPG, and there are black spot...

Emissions equipment

Hi, First post. Glad to find this forum. Recently purchased a '71, (built October '70) E type from local British used car dealer/repair shop. When I inquired about the pinched off tubing at the "Y" union between the carbs, (see attached photo), he said it was remnants from the emissions system, and ...
