rev counter and horn not working.

Hi people. The rev counter and horn have stopped working on my '69 S2 roadster. I guess they must share the same fuse or earthing point? anyone have any ideas how I might fix it? Cheers.

Recommended garage in the South West (UK)

Hi folks. I wonder if anyone can help. I need some work carried out on my Series 2 roadster; gearbox & engine seals, new Brake servo, timing chain (or tappets) and clutch replaces. This will obviously necessitate the engine being taken out. Can anyone recommend a garage with experience who will carr...

Brake disc design

Hi all. I've just had some upgraded billet callipers fitted to my S2 OTS. the mechanic said the discs on the car were of a design he's not come across before. Apparently they're a sandwich of three layers, the centre being separate from the inner and outer faces that are gripped by the disc pads. Do...

Ok thanks for the tip - I'll get that done before moving on to the servo.

That's interesting! Is there a way that I can differentiate between tappet and timing chain noise? I'm only going by the remarks from my local garage so you may well be right. The noise comes on after a few seconds of starting the engine and it's louder at certain revs - and as the revs are decreasi...

Wow! that's straightforward - even I can manage that. Perhaps I should have asked this first but the brakes have been binding; after releasing my foot from the brake, they're sluggish to free up again - it's uncannily like the assisted hill start on my Honda Civic! Advice I've had so far seems to po...

Lower timing chain rattle.

Like a large percentage of jaguar owners, I'm fed up with timing chain rattle. I had the top chain checked by the garage which they say is fine so i can only guess that it's the bottom chain that's making the noise. Is it possible to adjust/replace this without removing the whole engine?
Hope so.

Brake Servo replacement

Hi all, wonder if anyone can tell me whether replacing the brake servo on my S2 roadster is a fairly straightforward job, or do I need to remove all the stuff around it to get the old one out/new one in? It seems to be pretty tight in there and the surrounding engine frame means there's not much spa...

Best car-cover for indoors/outdoors

Hi all, my S2 roadster is off to the Goodwood revival next month to appear on a trade stand and unfortunately, I wont be there (it's a long story) Anyway, I need a good quality cover that can be put over the car quickly in the inevitable event of a shower and also to prevent any more dust than is ne...

I come in peace(s)

Hi all, I've never posted on the Series 3 forum - having a series 2 I've never needed to. But I'm currently helping restore a series 3 2+2 and we've hit a big problem (the most recent of many!) with the wiring. I wonder if anyone has a coloured wiring diagram they could let me have a look at or, bet...

Found it. One more thing - can I just swap it with the replacement or do I need to bleed the brakes?
Thanks for your patience! nearly there.

Sorry to sound a bit dim but can you tell me where I can find the brake light switch? I can't seem to find reference to it in the 'upgrades' link, or indeed the CD workshop manual I have!

Thanks for your help on this one.

Both Brake lights out.

Hi - wonder if anyone might be able to throw some light on this. Both the brake lights on my '69 S2 have stopped working. I checked the bulbs and the fuse but still nothing. is there a share earth point or something similar I can check?

NEC Classic Motor Show

I usually visit this show but this year I'm having second thoughts! As well as wanting ?25 a ticket, they also want to fleece you ?1.50 for a 'booking fee' and 10P a minute when you book by 'phone. As my Father used to say "I don't mind being ripped off if I don't know I'm being ripped off!" Anyway,...

intermittent rev counter/horn fail

Can anyone throw any light on this problem? Occasionally (although becoming more frequent lately) the rev counter will drop back to zero whilst I'm driving. It seems that at the same time the horn stops working. Both usually start working again after a few minutes.... Any idea where I might start lo...

Restored and painted shell...what next?

Just about to start building up a series three 2+2 now the bodywork is finished. The rear IRS is on - what should be my next step? I'd like to be able to get the car movable in the garage so is front suspension/wheels a good move first?

The 3AW relays are notoriously dodgy - for what they cost I'd try replacing that that first, even though the one in your car is only a few years old.

Need to check there's fuel to the carbs too - Spark and fuel - unless the engine has blown up, the chances are it'll be one of these.

That's just barking mad!
Still, might give them a bell and ask if they'll take my e type in PX - with a slight cash adjustment of course.
