Re: S3 speakers

Thanks Sven,
I’ve searched on SNG Barratt, Martin Robey and the Jaguar spares sites but none of them have the that part number in stock.
Did you order them via a specific website, or contact Jaguar directly?
I can’t seem to find the speaker grille or bezel available with any of the usual UK suppliers.

Re: Exhaust lengths

Hi Colin,
Yes I do have the fresh air vents in the footwells on my car.
I have them open all the time. I haven’t tried driving with them closed with the windows open and checking the CO ppm.
I guess it would register higher with them closed as the air would not be recycled as quickly?
Cheers,
Marcus

Re: Exhaust lengths

Thanks for the advice gents. I had a look around the boot area to and while there were no holes in the boot floor, there was one coin sized hole where a bung should be in the rear panel, similar to the one in Craig’s photo. I will cover that, plus the seal around the rear lights, the boot seal and c...

Re: Exhaust lengths

Thanks Craig for posting these photos.
They are a good guide to help me understand what to look for in the boot area of my car.
Hopefully sealing them up will help with the fumes issue.
Cheers,
Marcus

Re: S3 speakers

Hi Sven,
Can you please let me know where you got those speakers grilles from?
I want to replace the rubbish looking modern ones the previous owner put on my car.

Re: Exhaust lengths

Fumes Update: After spending a good sum of money fixing oil leaks and other issues on the engine to stop fumes coming from the front of the car, my fumes saga continues. I’ve been doing some experimenting and the only way that I have been able to get 0ppm CO in the cabin with the windows down is by ...

Re: Instrument Light Brightness Switch

Thanks for the replies all. It’s interesting that the U.S cars have a secondary dimmer rheostat knob in the footwell. I have a mystery switch under the dash on the right-hand side of my RHD New Zealand market car, see photo. I thought it might be either a dimmer switch or trip reset for the speedome...

Just out of interest, where do you find the instrument dimmer switch on the dashboard?

Re: Exhaust lengths

Thanks Colin, I have suspected leaks from the rear of the car and the rear door seal. To test this I sat in the rear seat with a CO detector while a mate of mine drove the car. I stretched back and pointed the detector around various areas at the rear of the boot including the rear door seal and did...

Re: Exhaust lengths

Thanks for the replies gents. It sounds it’s just down to the design of the car and aerodynamics, especially with the airflow over the 2+2 drawing exhaust gases forward. Funny I never noticed this issue with the MGB GT’s I’ve owned. I’m considering selling the car as I want to enjoy it with my famil...

Exhaust lengths

Hi all, I’ve never really solved the exhaust fumes blowing back into the cabin issue in my 2+2. I’m wondering if the length of the exhaust pipe could contribute to this problem. I have the twin exit pipes and they stop about an inch and a half inboard from the rear bumper. I would be interested to k...

Re: Series 3 Battery Ah

Thanks for clarifying David.
I’m looking at a battery charger/conditioner so I wanted to check the specs against the E-Type battery before buying.

Series 3 Battery Ah

Hi all,
Quick question, was is the recommended Ah rating for a Series 3 E-Type battery?
A search online seems to indicate 70-75 Ah is sufficient, but I just wanted to check first.
Many thanks,
Marcus

Re: Exhaust gases in a 2+2 with windows open

I did a check under the bonnet and found the CO meter registering very high when placed next to the right hand side of the engine block. Left side is registering 0.
Seems I might have an issue with the right side exhaust manifold, either a leaking gasket or crack in the manifold.
Cheers,
Marcus.

Re: Exhaust gases in a 2+2 with windows open

Thanks for the replies all.
I will check the exhaust system front to back for leaks with my CO meter and see what I find.
Will also check under the bonnet.

Exhaust gases in a 2+2 with windows open

Hi all, I’ve been doing some tests in my Series 3 2+2 with a CO meter to find out where exhaust gases are coming into the cabin. With windows and quarter lights closed, CO meter shows 0. With either drivers or passenger side windows down, or with both windows down, CO meter goes up to around 15ppm. ...

2+2 speaker grilles

Hi all,
My Series 3 2+2 has a pair of naff modern speaker grilles in the panel behind the doors
I’d like to replace them with the correct looking grille and bezels.
Does anyone know where to find these? Would the parts from the Series 1 to 3 XJ6 or XJ-S door speakers fit?
Many thanks,
Marcus

Hi Bill,
You may be right about air scoop but I haven’t checked it again yet.
It’s probably been damaged and repaired at some point it the past.
