Re: bang and black smoke

First thing I would do in such a case is check all the spark plugs to determine whether there is a misfiring by seeing wetness on any of the cylinders.

Re: New member from York looking for servicing and restoration contacts

Welcome to the best place for all things e type. As a Londoner can't help you on finding contacts in and around York, I am sure some folks more local to you will chime in with suggestions. I see the car was converted to LHD and to a five speed box which I had done on mine. I noticed they were only 3...

There was a time I new nothing about SU,s then I came across this video, a bit long, it certainly helped me understand the workings of the SU's so I recommend watching it.

Re: Oil pressure, one more round

I always wanted to understand the ins and outs of OP senders and gauges. The post linked on understanding senders whilst detailed and comprehensive left me quite confused especially since I don't know whether during restoration the original or a replacement were used.....

Since you have nothing to lose, get a honing attachment tool for your electric drill and give it a try….

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting

Yes I guess this is impractical if the engine and gearbox are out of the car, you can possibly fit it as you are now and providing enough leeway in adjustment for the final fit once the engine and gearbox are installed.

Re: tach question (I have read old posts)

I think if it is the same as series 1 and the tachometer is the same it won’t work on pulses and will require conversion to electronic.

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting

A few bags of sand or similar in the engine bay may revel whether the fit requires adjusting.

Re: S2 4.2 Cooling

I would check whether the fan is pulling cold air in rather than pushing hot air out the front, in which case the polarity of the fan wires needs reversing.

Re: Seeking Advice on Engine Troubleshooting

Don’t know what engine you have with injectors, did you try disconnecting one plug wire at a time to se which one may not affect the running of the engine? This could only be ignition, fueling or timing for stage one troubleshooting.
