Re: Should I save these internal bonnet panels…

Formerly an OBL panel? Yes it is, remnants of OBL mechanism, welded wing brackets, deeper headlamp glass recess and curly bracket at front of the wing 😎 https://i.postimg.cc/0jxrRTTC/IMG-3956.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/vTzTQPyv/IMG-3957.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Xq8qV2WL/IMG-3959.jpg https://i.postimg...

Re: Should I save these internal bonnet panels…

Thanks for the advice. I’ve now taken a closer look at the panels and taken the carb ducting apart (what seemed like hundreds of spot welds to drill out. The good news is there’s none of the usual rust damage, it’s only surface rust. The bad news is there’s damage to all the internal panels from an ...

Should I save these internal bonnet panels…

….or should I replace with new panels? These internal panels (2 headlight diaphragms, 2 mud guards and the tray that sits under the mouth) are off of my never restored 1962 FHC. As you can see from the pictures they only have surface rust (I’ve chemically stripped the paint and under seal but haven’...

Re: how to remove and save door skins on 1962 FHC?

Thanks Geoff I’ve scoured this forum and the internet for a couple of evenings but can’t find anything that explains how the skin is connected at the top of the door. But I have just found some photos of a reskinning exercise and I can see the shape of the panel prior to fixing which is helpful. I a...

how to remove and save door skins on 1962 FHC?

In preparing the doors ready to send to the blasters I decided it would be wise to remove the skins, for refitment later, to allow the blaster to get to everything in the door frame and the seam areas. So I made myself a skin remover tool, drilled out all the spot welds on the bottom and both sides ...

I’m leaving it as a LHD so it’s going to be obvious it’s an import anyway

Re: Registering a Canadian 1962 Import

I posted the V5 back to DVLA with a copy of the Heritage Certificate showing date of manufacture, and a covering letter explaining there’d been a mistake when it was registered back in January (by the previous owner) and that it should be on a 1962 plate. Couple of weeks later I got a call apologisi...

Registering a Canadian 1962 Import

I’ve bought a Canadian Import 1962 FHC project which was imported into the UK and reslgustered last December. The E-types being delivered tomorrow but the V5 has been transferred to me today and I noticed it’s been given an ‘A’ registration and a registration date of 31/12/63 even though it was buil...

Re: S1 3.8 FHC

£30K seems less than market value for a promising project but market values are very silly at the moment. I've been struggling to find anything like that near that price. The auctioneers would spray it with dust and sell it for over £50K. If it’s a RHD 61 in that conditions it’s worth £70k+ If it r...

Re: S1 3.8 FHC

You might find this 3.8 fhc a useful comparator @ £34,995 from E-Type UK https://etypeuk.com/showroom/restoration-projects/jaguar-e-type-series-1-38-rhd-fhc-lw/ This has a matching numbers engine and a period gearbox (i.e. probably not numbers matching) I take it those are not pictures of the same ...

Sourcing a restoration 3.8 from the States?

I would like to find a 3.8 OTS project car ready for a full restoration (I know you’re all thinking “wouldn’t we all” lol). I can’t believe there are many/any RHD cars left here so how about sourcing one in the states? Has anyone done this if so what’s the process and plus/minus points? I’m off to F...

Hy, On XKE DATA # 850657 with more details Mich Thanks for this. So it was sold at auction 2 years ago fir £99k, in which case all things being equal wouldn’t you expect it to be a little less than this now as the market has softened? The description fir it in 2020 sounds outstanding to be fare! ht...

Re: Feb 63 build with no Aluminum Dash

Yes it would definitely have to be a 3.8 but open to both a FHC and some upgrades (5 speed, better brakes, electronic ignition, better cooling etc). I have so many questions to ask about buying a restored car verses restoring what I can (mechanical and trim) and getting someone like Moss to do the b...

Re: Feb 63 build with no Aluminum Dash

No I haven’t seen the car yet I’m just trying to get a feel for what sort of 3.8 OTS or FHC £120k will buy me

The other one is the 64 black and red original IK spec OTS E-type UK have on at £110k. Again just going on the photos you can see corrosion breakthrough in the rear arches!
