Hi,
Is it possible to look up details of a car based purely on the UK number plate? Had a quick look on the XKE database but I think you have to put a VIN type number not the number plate... regards, dave

Hi all, Thanks for the updates on the VIN plates... clearly I've a lot to learn but interesting all the same. Lee, I didn't think I'd received any pics, thought I'd check my 'Spam' folder before answering and something has arrived but it was in the Spam folder, will have a look shortly, thank-you. A...

Hi all .... happy to consider any cars that may be offered, if anyone with a car that pretty much matches my requirements could send me detailed info I would be very grateful as per my advert in the classified section. It may be that for up to ?45k I will never get the car I want but I'm not going t...

Just back from the viewing..... it's not the one for me. An aspect that seemed odd to me was that it only had a mini VIN plate albeit with the 4 main items of information, I was expecting the usual comprehensive larger plate, guess not the original. My quest continues!

Thanks for all the information, just so I'm clear, this car is probably a UK registered car but with different cam covers off a US car that had the emissions cross over pipework? I may be popping along to have a closer look at the weekend and will check out the VIN plate then. From what I've read, i...

That's interesting to know, may I ask what were the clues to it being a LHD. I understand that the chassis plate number will indicate RHD / LHD, along with wipers parking to the left, extra side lights etc and oh yeah the steering wheel always bit of a clue generally  I appreciate that the majo...

That's good advice David and if Angus doesn't mind, I will indeed call him for a chat. I have his mob number from a while back when we spoke about other prospective cars. Who could ask for any more from a forum.... top marks one and all :D Did anyone have any thoughts on the car I pasted a link to? ...

Some interesting points, thanks, am pleased to hear that prices have possibly softened a little and that there should be something we can hopefully afford that's not a rolling restoration. Would prefer a UK car at the moment and think we can stretch to 40ish so maybe something I really like will tur...

Hi all, I've wanted a S2 FHC for a couple of years now and came close to buying one a year or so ago but trying to buy mid-range is a dangerous place to be. I can only apologise to those who thought they may have had a sale before. Could I therefore ask what people think might be a good price for a ...

Thanks very much for the invite John, I'd be very happy to pop over to Hayling in the NY and hear about your experiences and look at your car. I'll send you a PM with my contact details, cheers and HNY to you and all other folk on the forum, their advice has been invaluable.

That makes facinating reading and is exactly the kind of info I need, thanks so much for taking the time to write about your very recent buying experience, hope you've recovered from it now, the car looks great by the way. I'll send you a PM so hopefully we can chat off-line at some point soon ........

Hi John, good to hear from you.... No, I've not seen any other cars other than yours (John responded to an earlier plea of mine for info and kindly spent the morning showing me his gorgeous S1 FHC and taking me for a wonderful drive around surrey - a very good day indeed, my first ride in an E type)...

Some very good points.... thank you to all who have posted. As for colour, we'd definitely consider almost anything apart from white as we both agree that we'd rather have a stronger colour, yes even sable :D

This is excellent advice guys and for which I'm very grateful, exactly the reason why I joined the JEC and E Type clubs + forums. I beleive the JEC offer an inspection service but not sure how much it would cost or if any forum / club members have used it, hence my question. As for budget, we think ...

Thanks David /Angus, Thats good advice, I was hoping that I wouldn't necessarly have to just pay for someone to look a car over, as suggested, I'd much rather network with club members so that I can get involved in the buying process, I'm always willing to learn and help out if I can. I wonder thoug...

Hi all, Hoping to take the plunge and start looking for an excellent condition, ready-to-go, Series 2, FHC, RHD, manual in the new year but I have a question... All the advice in the world from all the excellent books, internet, club members etc is never going to be a complete substitute for having ...
