HI Simon
You are welcome to borrow my goodridge washers and compare them to your banjos, they look OK on mine but I have thicker copper washers on already. I won't be needing mine for 2 weeks at least, so if they look OK then use them and order me some more.

Hi All This is what I made for removing the valves from my head, I 1st made the wooden board as per the Bentley manual for the head to sit on, then on my lathe i bored a 40mm length of 25mm steel to 30mm deep, threaded the solid end m8, then after milling the slots i assembled it as shown on the len...

Re: Block after head removal
Yes my thoughts exactly on the rebuild, there are signs of gasket sealant on the timing chain cover and sump so something has been done, I have measured the bores and its on standard sized pistons so it's either had new liners or maybe new rings, there was no receipts for the engine rebuild, but to ...

Re: Block after head removal
Hi Tim, After a good effort and with my friends assistance, as well as2 bottle Jack's, (it was stuck solid) it finally came free today, and thanks to your contribution I have a nice new set of studs to replace those rusty ones. I just need to strip the head and make sure it's not warped before putti...

Timing chain tensioner
Hi all I am trying to slacken my upper timing chain, I have set engine to tdc, removed all 4 bolts holding the cams to the sprockets but when I try and turn the serrated plate clockwise on the adjuster it seems stuck, the pin depresses OK and the plate does move forward and backwards by a tiny bit b...

Re: Over torqued head nuts
Thanks for your input, I have decided to replace the gasket and the studs just to be sure, it also gives me a chance to Inspect the head and bores, supposedly the engine was rebuilt 1000 miles ago by the previous owner, incidentally does anybody know how i can tell if the head has been previously sk...

Over torqued head nuts
hi all I did something really stupid today, I set my torque wrench to 85 lbs instead of 58 and proceeded to re torque my cylinder head nuts, I realised almost straight away and backed them off, then re torqued to the correct value, arrrr what an idiot, I have come to the conclusion that I will need ...

Re: SU Fuel Pump Electrical Issues
It would seem that the booklet I have is incorrect,
https://www.autosparks.co.uk/jaguar-e-t ... on-booklet
But regardless the problem is still the same, a corroded joint on the cable from the fusebox to the fuel pump causing a drop in the voltage

Re: SU Fuel Pump Electrical Issues
I have the coventry auto components enlarged wiring diagram for the series 1 4.2 which shows the fuel pump fed from fuse no 4. I have looked at the green service manual and this shows it unfused as you said, I assume the coventry autos wiring booklet must be wrong, although if you look at the fuse d...

Re: SU Fuel Pump Electrical Issues
It sounds like you have a high resistance joint on the cable from the fuse box to the pump, this will cause the reduction in voltage, I suggest you start with a new fuse and clean up the contacts where the fuse locates, it's fuse no 4 for the fuel pump, if this doesn't work then you will need to tak...

Gunsons Colortune
Hi
Has anybody had any experience of using the gunsons colortune for setting mixture on the SU carbs, at 1st glance it seems an easy way to get the mixture spot on, however some reviews of the product say that it doesn't work very well with modern fuels.
Thanks
Ian

Re: How hot should it run
An update on my temperatures, before the run I 1st removed the front number plate that the previous owner had screwed to the front covering over half of the open mouth. During a 20 min run the temp gauge stayed under 70 degrees throughout, after i could touch the bonnet on the carb side comfortably ...
