Re: S3 Heater Install

Reference heater support bracket - good to know. I had seen the parts on the relevant page of the Spare Parts Listing but was puzzled as to exactly what for / where mounted. All very timely, though I'm still at the stage of compiling the ancillary bits and pieces before purchase (I have the heater b...

Re: S3 Heater Install

That's just what I need - and the supplementary photos are a bonus. Many thanks.

This is also LHD: much of air con needs to be put back into service, so I will just move the relay to the original location pending getting on with the rest of it.

S3 Heater Install

Am collecting all the various parts needed to reinstall the heater and fresh air ventilation systems on my 71 (ex US) S3. PO for some reason removed it in its entirety from engine side of bulkhead - controls and levers within dash/cockpit seem to be still there. However (see photos) where the heater...

Well will have to see. As long as it does no harm, I'm willing to give it a try.

Re: Worst plugs ever seen?

200 km later......on a good fast trip, plus took the advice of others on this forum and added some good quality 2 Stroke oil to the tank. Result is a clean clean plug (this one is 6B; I'll try 6A next time I check). Engine is running very well indeed. No comparison with what was going on before. Tha...

Re: Worst plugs ever seen?

Thanks for that reassuring comment, Marek. I took the car gir its first run with new plugs yesterday: immeasurably better. Came off choke so much quicker, plus running noticeably more smoothly (why am I not surprised). I had been planning to pull the plugs after 500km or so and see condition. I take...

Re: Worst plugs ever seen?

If it is coolant, I'd be surprised - engine gives no sign of head gasket issues (and I had a similar LR V8 that overheated multiple times and I had to replace the head gasket twice which included helicoiling the block to get some new studs in). But I must admit @71V12 it does not look like rust, mor...

Re: Worst plugs ever seen?

Or would you say water getting through bonnet vents and settling in spark plug cavities? The car has no rain covers installed on top of the engine. Nevertheless, would coolant produce this reddish residue? ATM certainly it is green antifreeze not orange.

Re: Worst plugs ever seen?

Erratum! Some of them look reasonable, some do not (if you can see through all the crap that's on the electrodes)....

Worst plugs ever seen?

Other than on a barn find and complete engine restoration, has anyone ever seen plugs like these? PO insisted that he had regularly maintained the car and had had it serviced shortly before I purchased.... I think not! That will teach me to take things at face value; I had been meaning to look at th...

Classic Additions - super soft stretch cover (get a leaping cat logo added for good measure). Great service; first class product; fast delivery. (NB I have no interest in C A: just a very satisfied customer.)

Re: Oil drain bolt size

Thanks for the frame advice. But I think better to have car on a lift rather than have me hammering away with it on axle stands..... No rush, but I will have a go idc.

Re: Oil drain bolt size

Just to close this off: finally loosened sump plug (and I had been searching oil drain plug not sump plug) which PO/ workshop appear to have tightened way OTT given warnings in this forum about stripping threads etc. Had to jack up car, get spanner on to it, brace against ground and then lower car t...

Re: Oil drain bolt size

Thanks for advice on frame - one learns more every day. As to the bolt size being on the sngb parts listing that's news to me - I thought they (and all other usuals) deliberately did not show sizing detail for fear that potential customers would simply order elsewhere. I'll have another look.

Re: Oil drain bolt size

I only need to remove/ replace the bottom "U" shaped piece that many on this forum recommend using as a jacking point (with wood insert to keep it from collapsing as mine has). Appears to have 2 bolts either end ......

Oil drain bolt size

Trying to do first oil change - but simply cannot get socket or spanner onto bolt head. Have tried all tools I have available. Beginning to think PO somehow used different bolt..... Could someone kindly confirm size? Thanks. I also noted that previous owner(s) / workshops have completely mangled the...
