I think they're bare cast iron from factory, but I tend to paint them in silver caliper paint.
I agree your clutch master looks to have been maybe zinc plated.
Have a look at the "Factory Fit" threads if you haven't already. Tons of pictures.

Re: Speedo TPM for 2.88 diff.?
What he's after is the specific speedo number eg 1080 for a 2.88 diff.
I've suggested on Jag Lovers he contact Speedograph Richfields as it may be that there's not actually an E type speedo that is geared correctly.

You may be able to tell by measuring the piston diameters and comparing them to known brands.

Re: Camshaft Cover Nuts
I do them up to 4lbft, then I will tighten them to 7lbft if the cam cover leaks.
You need to be very careful of overtightening them as you can crack the cam cover under the nut and then it will leak.

Because the registration documents are for a different car.
There's no way you can prove that you own the car or that it's not stolen.

Re: Chassis and engine numbers don't match
Don’t just walk away - Run !! Tim's absolutely right. Avoid it like the plague. The J70 is an addition that they used to make in the US, but that chassis number is for a different car. The only way I'd entertain buying this car is if the auction house can provide you with a v5 with the correct numb...

Re: Brakes sticking and engine revs rising under braking?
Maybe 2 problems. Brakes sticking on is often related to the reaction valve at the front of the master cylinder sticking. It has a tiny piston in it. You need to lubricate this generously with brake grease. Search the site for detailed instructions. Revs changing with brake application might indicat...

Rear brake cylinders R&R
Just for the record it is possible to R&R Series 1 rear brakes without removing the diff from the cage or the caliper frames from the diff. We dropped the IRS, removed the front shocks and the baseplate, and were able to remove all 4 of the rear cylinders from the caliper frames, leaving the frames ...

Re: Triple Weber settings
I have no experience with Webers on the XK engine. My advice would be to give the car to someone with a dyno who has a good reputation for knowing the Weber DCOE. Here's some stuff I've collected over the years. No idea of its veracity. 1. There's a Mike Cassidy article https://www.dropbox.com/s/h89...

Re: Replacing engine harness S1
It's entirely doable especially as you have the original wiring to show you where it goes.
Maybe try bending the tabs that hold the dashtop screws so that they clear. The 2 central ones are bolt on brackets you can remove if necessary.

Re: lower front shock absorber bolt
I don't think I've seen a bolt with a shoulder like that. Does it actually fit in the hole in the rear wishbone arm? As long as it does it should be ok as the shocker is mounted on a steel sleeve and then rubber bush so movement shouldn't be a problem once it's tightened down and pinned. https://i.p...

It's a funny game here.
Adelaide's relatively small, so the guy who gave me my anaesthetic has done so before, and I've anaesthetised him as well.

Re: Ventilated discs for Volvo calipers.
Thanks Jack. I've got a pretty comprehensive machine shop myself and I can do what you describe. However I'd be happier of I can get discs with the correct hole spacing. I do actually have a set on my 4.2 coupe but it's in storage off site and I'm currently recovering from some surgery so I can't ac...

Re: Holes in acceleration with explosion
Like everything on internet forums we all have different opinions based on what we've read or been told. What I do is what I was taught by Chris, who has been building and repairing 6 and 12 cylinder Jaguar engines since the 1970's and who I worked with for over 10 years, and by Brenton, our machini...

Re: Holes in acceleration with explosion
Although this is not related to the tuning problem you are experiencing, and I agree you are probably lean, I am concerned about the running in advice you have been given. By 500ks I would happily be taking the car past 4500rpm. Limiting it to 2500 at that speed will interfere with the rings bedding...

Re: Dropping IRS to replace rear brake pads and pistons
I suspect that experience is a highly valuable asset. . I agree. Send the diff off to a professional. Otherwise everything else is well within the grasp of a keen amateur with decent tools. If you're going to go to the trouble of stripping the IRS the sensible approach is to do everything. Then you...

Re: Ventilated discs for Volvo calipers.
Hi Andrew...S3 xj6 are very similar in not the same as the S2 so have a check....they are also similar to S3 E type disc Steve I had a look, and S3 E type has the same disc as S2 XJ6 etc. For some annoying reason they changed the hole spacing from 114.3mm to 111.1mm I have a set of S3 E Type discs ...
