That’s a strange line of reasoning from Jaguar... if the level drops (due to a leak), the sensor at the engine outlet will remain immersed in the flow as long as there is fluid in the radiator, whereas the one in the water tank will be dry—or nearly so.

Let's go for a drain

The rope seal requires the crank to be turning to be effective, so with this much oil sitting over it, it will almost certainly start dripping. So, unfortunately, not a good way to see if it leaks. Unless, of course, the oil pours out :lol: I was thinking more of the sump gasket, not the rope seal ...

Just so I don't end up covered in oil while I'm working on it! Is it necessary to drain the sump before removing the oil pump return line? I have a major leak where the elbow connects to the sump.

If the polarity has been reversed with the auxiliary battery that's likely that the electronic part of the EZ did not like this treatment....
