A close examination of the case/end cap will reveal a small line mark made by Lucas. That line is for correct orientation of the body/cap relationship.
Good info Dick!!! I'll go check.

Re: S3 Fuel Expansion Tank

Fantastic pics, thanks Bob! Now comes the big question: Which connections on the tank goes to which connections on the expansion tank? I am aware of three connections on the tank but I see 4 connections on the expansion tank. I presume one of them would go to the carbon cannister or otherwise atmosp...

Re: Fan temperature sensor

I'm going to try another angle to get my thoughts across: Let's pretend we have a magic radiator to somehow keep THE SAME VOLUME of coolant that would be in the radiator at a constant 3degC. This device has some magic way of "instantly" cooling coolant coming from the engine down to 3degC. Right, no...

Re: Fan temperature sensor

running a fan (pre-emptively or not) just does the cooling quicker, At 73'c, it makes no difference - the radiator isn't receiving any water flow. At 74'c, each radiator starts to receive flow. I would rather phrase it as follows: "running a fan (pre-emptively or not) just starts the cooling earlie...

Re: Fan temperature sensor

Philip, you may be slightly overthinking this. If the temperature is or may become too high, why do you want to half run the fans? I don't think so Marek. And to the second question, no. The principle of fitting a fan switch with low temp ratings is to get the fans to activate sooner, creating cool...

Re: Fan temperature sensor

I have 74ºC thermostats in my car with an ECHLIN FS155 68-72ºC fan switch. What I would like to do with your "intelligent fan controller" is replace the otter switch (fan switch) in the bottom hose with a temperature sensor and then program the controller to start the fans at say 68ºC (at a lowish s...

Solenoid and downstream wiring al original?
I could find no evidence of any tampering on the cowling wiring.

But now she runs sweet just below N of Normal. I have a video: https://youtu.be/omgm1H2guCQ

Re: RH fan turns wrong way round - from factory?

The fan can not be mounted the wrong way round, and even if it could, would still be going wrong way.

Re: Smell in cockpit of S3 OTS

My first E-type was an S3 OTS. My hair and clothes always smelt of exhaust gas after a drive, and I drove mostly with the hood up (here in South Africa, if the hijackers don't kill you, the sun will). Same problem in my FHC. And now I have an OTS again but this one has a hard top. Interestingly, thi...

I accept that they should not be there. Weird what people get up to.

Someone will most likely say exactly that of the way I mounted the replacement scoop...

Replacing under bonnet scoop - now easily replaceable.

I did so on my OTS yesterday. Some "clueless person" did not set the front suspension correctly, found that the scoop interfered with the ground when the bonnet was open and decided to fix this by modifying the scoop, bending the front lip upwards. So yesterday, I replaced it. But.... I am one of "t...

Re: Are these drain holes?

Thank you Bill Is that section between the two large holes perfectly flat or also a bit curved? Just wondering if water could STILL be lying there despite the large holes. I had another look at those slots on my car, and its hard to imagine that someone somehow cut them into the panel. The amount of...

Are these drain holes?

Today I fitted a new under bonnet scoop to my OTS. The one that came with the car was modified to avoid it touching the ground with the bonnet open - but this was due to the front suspension being too low. As I was removing the original scoop, I came across these "openings" and after inspection came...

Re: Distributor Flash guard

Problem with the ventilation system, when the shaft seal wears out, crankcase fumes are sucked into the distributor ... Surely A LOT more fresh air would be sucked in together with crankcase fumes rendering the crankcase fumes too lean for combustion? The fresh air route being the path of least res...

Re: Distributor Flash guard

The OPUS dissies did not have such a flash guard did they? They also did not have the ventilation system the HE LUCAS dissies had? Should be easy to implement the ventilation system by using an HE cap (or drill holes and fit pipes to the OPUS cap), connect one fitting to the clean side of the air fi...

Re: V12 cylinder head removal

Phil, note how, between the 2nd and 3rd sheets, the blue hole dimensions and the red hole dimensions get swapped over? Also the different holes, not HE vs preHE, is left vs right ... The swapping of the blue hole dimensions and red hole dimensions result from the blue holes being "above" the red ho...
