Hi Chris. As you turn the key it supplies 12v to the coil..continue turning and the 12v to coil should stay on but you are also operating the starter....so you need to check that the coil 12v is on during cranking...it could be a faulty ignition switch....as well as all the other points mentioned ab...

Hi Tim..is the uprated silicon/cloth wrapped from SNGB not tapered?.. you can get various size tapered hosed on ebay etc and cloth wrap yourself if you can get a correct size....Fossways i believe do a taper hose for this..Steve

Hi Ash.....even second hand parts may not fit other car perfectly.. you dont know the life of the part or its history or how it was originally fitted..its not unusual for new parts to be fettled to fit and even rechromed....also as a one off job its always more difficult to fit than for someone who'...

Basically by useing a new wire you have proved a fault on the feed to your fuel pump..typically dirty connections..look at your wireing diagram...you will see that the white wire pump feed comes from the input side of fuse 6....the cct is not fused....so clean all the contacts so you get 12v at the ...

You have low voltage...
It's a 12v system....so needs looking at....what's the voltage at the battery ?... Steve

Welcome to the forum.....why if you have an early cars with original parts would you want to replace them with something different.....is your starter working?...drive the cat.. use it.....then work out what you think need fixing...Steve

Mike...you could calculate what's needed by measuring from the bellhouseing face to the flywheel....and from the face of the starter to the pinion ...the plate is around 1/8 in ....Steve

You need the bushes (ring dowels) as well to locate the plate to the bellhouseing and get the starter in the correct position

Standard set up yes you need a spigot plate amd yes without it the ting gear can hit the starter pinion and cause horrendous noise...yes xj6 dod gone as Standard transmission...but you need to count the teeth to ensure its correct..Steve

....you need to assess you cylinder..if the bore is ok then just fit replacement seals...Steve

Hi Tom...I was trying to pointing out how the light works with the oil pressure switch....if it comes on when the engine is running you haven't got ignition problems you have a lack of oil pressure. So although the lamp is called an ignition warning lamp understanding how it works gives you far more...

Look at the wireing diagram for your car chassis number.. some have an oil pressure switch forward of the oil filter housring...its an on/off and operated the red warning lamp in the speedo....some think the red lamp is an ignition warning lamp but it was used in pre 3AW...Steve.
