Re: Hood tie down straps BD20660

I have to agree here - I ordered a vac advance capsule for my car which did not work - the spring inside was much too strong . Does nobody actually check on the quality of the stuff being sent out ?

Re: Vacuum retard distributor

Hi John , has the fitting been a success , ie. does the vac give the proper advance ? I drilled my Stromberg in a similar way , but when connected it doesn`t seem to have any effect . :scratchheadyellow:

Looks interesting , but quite expensive ( c. £ 12 k ) . I`d really want to see some thorough independent tests on the quality and durability before spending that sort of cash .

Great looking car and a wonderful engine sound ...couldn`t think of a nicer place to be on a cold Winter`s day - all that heat from the engine and exhausts - who needs a heater

Re: Up or down, or.....

There seem to be a few fairly cheap US import S2 2+2 cars on offer now . I can`t imagine why anyone would buy these now though - the maths doesn`t add up eg. cost of car £ 25 k , restoration cost 60 k ( average best guess ) , total cost 85 k . Value at auction c. 45 k . I suppose the good thing abou...

Re: new member / dealer and car opinions please

That S 2 roadster looks quite nice - price seems reasonable * if * the bodywork is in good nick . For ex US cars , you need to factor in the cost of : triple Su conversion , diff. ratio change ( 3.54 to 3.07 ) and RHD conversion . That might be as much as £ 15 k ( done by specialist ) . Then you nee...

Re: HELM Jaguar E Type 300hp Restomod - Review

What happens when you get bored of this car and want to sell it in a few years time ? I think you would be lucky to get back half it`s cost ( probably only a dealer would be interested in buying it ).With a really good standard car , possibly with an interesting history , you stand a good chance of ...

I `m doing my bit for global warming - making it worse  . The Jag`s only doing around 18 mpg at the moment
I don`t see what`s so bad about GW anyway - should save on my Winter heating bills :salute:

Re: £300K Series 3 anyone ?

Good point , although I think it`s unlikely that classics will be banned from the roads altogether - I think there are too many owners ( and people with influence ) who would object . More likely it would made more difficult and expensive ( higher taxes on petrol )with possibly an annual mileage lim...

My understanding always was that 4.2=5000rpm, 3.8 5500. That's what my handbooks say as well.
Interested in why they reduced the max revs for the 4.2 - any obvious reason ? :scratchheadyellow:

Re: £300K Series 3 anyone ?

Perhaps the ultimate upgrade ( and indignity )for an E would be to convert to electric - only around £ 100 k ( :wow: ) But then what would it be ? Not a proper E-Type , that`s for sure .I can`t understand why anyone would pay huge amounts to convert a classic to electric . If someone wants an electr...

Re: Triple carburetors

I read somewhere that the Stroms will bolt onto a series 1 inlet manifold meant for SUs . One problem might be that the Stroms seem much wider than the SUs so maybe getting 3 to fit in line could be difficult . I think someone on the US forum has done this .If it were possible it would be a lot chea...

The leather on my seats , and particularly the gear lever bit ,had gone hard . I tried the cheap baby oil from the supermarket . Repeated applications over a couple of months have transformed the condition - it`s now super soft and pliable - amazing and cost next to nothing . :salute:

Re: pre-programmed curves on 123 ignition - help please?

Would it be right to say that maximum vacuum in the manifold should be at fairly high RPM when the throttle is closed . eg. take your foot off the pedal at 60 in 3 rd gear . Minimum vac would be the opposite , ie. wide open throttle at low RPM . Just guessing now , but maybe 70 mph in 4 th would be ...

Re: £300K Series 3 anyone ?

Nicely done , except for the interior , which just looks odd ( what was wrong with the original ? ). Easy to see how it could cost at least £ 300 k for all the time spent on it @ £ 60-70 / hr .
Overall , for the same price you could have a nice series 1 E plus an Aston DB 11 for the same money .
