Re: Front suspension

I used just a hydraulic trolley jack & axle stands, no need for a hoist.
If you make corresponding marks (centre punch) on the torsion bars, at both ends, the lower wishbones and rear adjusters you will be able to refit them, lining up the marks, without changing your ride height.

Re: Vacuum tank - colour & shape

I’ve recently restored my reset vac tank and used the stencil with good success. I had it made up as a sticker and once applied gave it a quick flick with some off white aerosol paint. Disappointingly you can barely even see it once installed but if the rivet-counters go searching they can see it’s ...

Re: Starter or not

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll start with checking the cable connection to the starter and also the earth strap as it was disconnected during the engine removal. Given it seems to crank after rocking the car fore & aft in gear would that suggest it’s more likely to be the starter motor itself?

Starter or not

Hi all,
Since putting my engine back in, occasionally I press the starter button but she no go. If I rock the car a bit, in gear, it will then engage and crank ok. Never had this issue prior. Any suggestions?

Merry Christmas to my big forum family! You are absolutely invaluable to me in getting and keeping my E-Type on the road. Re: Cooling fan switch

Thanks Layne that’s exactly where I moved it too so fan operational again. I have also added the override switch under the dash and replaced the switch in the header tank so should be all good to go.

Re: Cooling fan switch

Is this the correct location for the earth wires to be attached? (relay mounting screw) I relocated mine to this position but no earth. Could it be because the header is rubber mounted therefore insulated from the frame? https://i.postimg.cc/BnW2jW5Y/761-F4677-5649-492-A-8-E0-A-9373-EF2462-AF.jpg Pete

Re: Which cooling fan relay?

Unfortunately I don’t have an old relay. It’s fitted with a modern which is why I want to replace it. Good suggestion though if I can find an original one to use for the case.

Which cooling fan relay?

Hi,
Should the cooling fan relay be 3 pin or 4 pin?
The correct Jaguar part number C18122 (superseded to SRB111) at SNGB is 4 pin and is listed as “normally open type”
C17338 is 3 pin but is listed for the 3.8 as a horn relay.

Re: Cooling fan switch

A search of Jaguar relay part number C18122 at SNGB shows a 5 pin relay (SRB111). This is the one they list for the 3.8 cooling fan relay. Searching for C17338 listed at the same supplier has 3 pins and looks correct for the fan. Would this be the correct one to buy?

Re: Cooling fan switch

I’ve just removed the additional “hot” wire from the relay and connected the unused green wire from the harness. The fan is now working only with ignition on. I’ll now replace my fan switch and all should be ok. I’ll still add the under dash switch and replace the relay with an original type for aut...
