Re: Series 1 rear brakes recurring failure.
Kevin ,
You don't say 4.2 or 3.8 ?. So with both rear calipers burning up i would guess at the rear master cylinder/bellows balance bar on a 3.8 or the servo master on a 4.2.
To create that much heat you should feel the brakes drag whilst driving ?.

Re: Dipstick locater / bracket
The longer dipstick stud in the head is to accommodate a small spacer distance piece C19706 -- the 4.2 has 5, 1 on the dipstick bracket ,2 on the gearbox breather ,2 on the alternator heat shield

Steve , i think the part you need is C20066 ?-- with Bill's help it would be easy to make one . If you do struggle though , a guy on ebay 'morsejags' will more than likely have one.

Re: Radiator fan didn’t come on
Jonathan-- Is the temp gauge reading high ?. Electrics aside ,have you also checked and proven the operating temperatures of both the engine thermostat and the fan otter stat with a thermometer? . I have seen engine thermostats being sold specifically for the 6 cylinder E Type rated at 88 deg --bear...

The clutch pad heights could be the same when bolted down? , your old cover looks like an original Laycock item . The latest Borg + Beck kits now have a similar look to the Laycock. https://i.postimg.cc/nV3fGHjT/IMG-1751-4823.jpg With the amount of work involved it's good practice to prove the clutc...

Re: Car fails on full throttle
My guess is a badly dented / creased fuel line would give those symptoms , cannot think of much else if the pump is ok and you have 4psi in the line initially.Where did you place the gauge ? between the filter and carbs?

Also what is that pipe running through the stabiliser fixing bracket? Bryan previously asked about the brake pipe routing , someone kindly posted photos showing--so maybe it is just that instead of doing --master cylinder- right hand frame-picture frame-joint-left hand frame to servo he has decided...

Some have had success with the freeze spray from screwfix , you could cycle heat and cold by using a heavy duty soldering iron on the screw--

Re: Series 2 aesthetics
They are in the lens. Sorry James it's me not being clear in post 281, i was referring to the mgb version , unless i'm missing something i cannot see a reverse light ----the mgb had 2 stand alone separate reverse lights. I've got two Lotus elans so i am familiar with the rear lights having integrat...

Re: Series 2 aesthetics
The choice of mgb lamps could have been made on cost not so much aesthetics ! .
New mgb rear lamps are £100 a pair ---Lotus rear lamps are £270 each --£540 a pair.
Where's the reversing lamp ?

Re: Choice of gearbox ? Help needed
Rob ,As said there is not really a bargain basement solution to the swb, also in contrast to using E Type components it will knock much more off the value of the car than the cost of doing the job correctly . But If keeping the cost to the minimum is your main priority , i would fit a 4 speed 3.8 -3...

Re: Powder Coating Colours
I agree with Steve ; you may also, believe it or not, alter the overall geometry of the front of the car with the thickness of the powder coating involved Very true , but i don't think you would even get that far ---- the high build on the frames will probably stop them from entering the chassis ra...

Re: Coupe to Roadster DVLA Registration
Simon , Your honesty is appreciated. If you disclose to the DVLA i think same as Steve you will run into problems , my guess is they will immediately assign a temporary 16 digit chassis number to your V5 until the vehicle is inspected and decided upon--so you could end up battling over the original ...

Re: Two different round fluid reservoirs
Good that the convex and concave are intentional , and the thinking one gives a residue trap ---the concave one's on a rhd would also make slightly more room for the pipe to give a less severe bend next to the spigot --clue repro's  win win- Jaguar were never far wrong. It's maybe also confusi...

Re: Crankshaft Thrust Bearing Clearance
All options are possible I would do option 2 [ one of each ] which should give .002" end float --- that leaves you just .002" to remove to get to the .004" spec ---that could be just a thou off each one which helps to keep them nice and parallel -for that small amount it can be taken off the lead co...

Re: Two different round fluid reservoirs
I think they would b all one piece blow moulded , only that the ones with a visible seam have a poor tooling split line with flash that is maybe trimmed off at production.
Just a guess Maikel's fluid bottle with the inverted bottom could maybe have been subjected to pressure ?
