Re: 5 speed xj6 or O/D box for 2+2 s1?
A key issue with the XJ6 5-speed is that although they usually come with the bell housing attached, not many come with the necessary Jag flywheel, starter, clutch and release bearing which are also hard to get. Having box and bell is the easy bit, so if considering the kit make sure it’s all there. ...

Re: Best place for data plate stamping UK
BUY BRITISH !!! I have seen and bought many data plates that were useless. The only ones I will ever buy from now on are from Classic Reproductions, which are indistinguishable from original in terms of manufacturing quality. If anybody else sells real photo-etched nowadays I suspect they buy them w...

Generally speaking it's inadvisable to drive - or attempt pretty much anything else - after immersing yourself in The Floyd for a couple of hours.... “I’m not frightened of dying - anytime will do, I don't mind Why should I be frightened of dying? Re: SC Parts come up trumps!.......after waiting over 4 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A frequent M.O. was to debit your card having promised the part was in stock. Then it wasn't. I was once after a V12 version of the 123 distributor, which they said was available. I was at Stoneleigh and had cash from selling parts. I told the guy running their stall that I was sceptical about handi...

Re: Top end tapping - still
Piston slap is worse cold and gets milder as the engine warms, but potentially the pistons may have been installed back to front, causing some unusual noise level? I've never heard of it but 4.2 pistons often have offset pins and an indication (either an 'F' or an arrow ->) which should face the fro...

Re: What is this car
Going to have the webasto roof deleted Have you had a quote? That is a serious bit of fabrication to get it looking smooth and correctly curved all around? Going back to the earlier ID question, one of the best defences against running into ID trouble is to state publicly what car number you have, ...

Re: EDIS question
IMO using COP on an E is to exchange one level of clutter for another. EDIS gets rid of clutter without needing to hide everything under a valley cover like my 6.0 XJ12.

Re: 3.8 dynamo conversion
So looks like Dynalite is indeed the way to go to. Lifetime warranty. Michale Hadley (MD at Powerlite) answers emails, always a good sign, and stands behind his product. Interesting. I have a very slightly-used + ve earth Powerlite E-type kit I wanted to use on the D, but it's too big for the space...

Re: Jaguar are losing the plot!
I learned a new word today which seems to fit.”Doomscrolling.” I see the British proclivity for self-immolation has returned like the next wave of cicadas due any day here in Maryland after a 17 year pause. I was appalled to witness the wholesale devastation of what could be loosely termed metal-bas...

Re: Spacer location
Can someone tell me where these spacers should go. On a series 1 2+2. Cheers I can’t say for sure but the bulkhead stand-off idea sounds likely for three. The radiator cowl sounds likely too but I thought under the mushroom front seat bobbins had spacers too. If it’s a LHD car there were spacers in...

Re: Exhaust manifold temperature variation
What conditions are you measuring? Idle? Fast idle, medium load, high load?
Where exactly are you measuring?
What are you measuring with and how?
What kind of manifold (cast iron or tubular.
300F is impossibly cold

Looks like you got some factory rejects ....Unfortunately they are scrap  I highly doubt it. Some basic measurements and test fitting would be in order. I can’t believe ‘factory rejects’ of a safety-critical item - however defined - would escape the scrap bin other than with cosmetic blemishes...

I've read quite a few posts on two or four post lifts but has anyone used a single post (portable) car lift with an E Type ? Re: FACTORY FIT - Series 1 3.8
An April first specimen methinks... Being left-handed but somewhat ambidextrous runs in my father’s family. ‘Seams’ I could have earned double time at Jaguar, and quadruple on holidays :-) As to Wagstean’s point, it would be interesting to know if the extra metal was equal on both sides - indicating...
