Re: Confession about SEARCH, Question about Engine Installation

Is that a T5 box? I put my engine back in my 3.8 OTS last week. I have a Medatronics JT5 box in that car, with the slip yoke. There was no way I could get the yoke to clear the floor of the car with it installed. And with it off, there isn't enough room to leave it attached to the tailshaft and slid...

Re: Series 1.5 carburettor setting

The o ring 45 and dished washer 46 make an air tight seal and must be fitted.

Re: Disappointed in parts quality

Colin it's been my experience that installation of the IRS with new mounts can be a variable feast. It's very rare to be able to simply lower the car down and bolt it on, and sometimes it's quite difficult. Aligning the holes isn't just about direct axial compression of the rubber but also about pul...

Re: Disappointed in parts quality

I have not see any reports of failures of new mounts that I can recall....Steve I have had several sets of the cheap generic mounts from SNGB where the rubber has delaminated from the metal of the mount, both on customer cars and on one of my own cars. These mounts would have been purchased around ...

Re: Series 1.5 4.2L backfiring under load with new 123 distributor

With #1 at TDC compression stroke the slot in the dizzy drive should be at 10 minutes to 4, with the big D up.

Your drive is upside down (180 degrees out), and may possibly be one tooth out as well; parallax on your picture makes it tricky to be sure.

Re: Series 1.5 carburettor setting

To answer your question, use the slow adjustment screws to set idle.

You should have the butterflies all completely closed at idle.

Get a syncrometerhttps://www.sumidel.com/shop/item/carbu ... nchrometer and set the flows so they are equal; I usually find a flow of 7 to 8 is where you end up.

Has the engine reconditioner not fitted the crank pulley properly (I'm saying that assuming it's a press fit on the shaft).

Re: Fuel pipe alternative

If you're not happy with nylon consider Aeroflow braided hose. A 6 m length should be enough to get you from the fitting near the IRS to the hard line at the front. I used this on my Mk2. Alternatively make up a hard line with steel pipe like the later cars. You'll need to braze the fitting on for t...

The guy there informed me no problem but it’ll be 2 days work, at least, I didn’t have the courage to ask what the hourly rate was !! 🤣
Bollocks. It should take perhaps 15 minutes.

Or would you say water getting through bonnet vents and settling in spark plug cavities?
It's rust from those plugs being in water in the divots in the head.

PO probably washed the car then put it away.

Re: Hole In LHS Sill-End Panel - What For Please ?

I can add to the list of those who aren't sure but given that the car bodies had to be both left and right handed it might be for something on a RHD car.

Does the chrome handle just lever out with screwdrivers, or do you twist/screw it out?
From memory it has a backing plate under the trim that is held in place with self tapping screws.

Have a look at the pictures in the EBay listing; they're pretty helpful.

Re: tightening torques on front suspension assemblies

There aren't really any torque values in the Manual.

In this situation your best bet is to go to a generic torque table for the specific bolt (grade 5 5/16" UNF for the ball joints, for example) and tighten it to that spec.
