Original brake light switch?

Hi all, As mentioned in another post, my car performed faultlessly during the long weekend at the Goodwood Revival, apart from a brake light switch failure. I’ve purchased a couple of the ‘improved’ versions from SNG (one for my spares box in the boot). I swapped out the old one and the new one has ...

Re: Expansion tank broken

It all depends on how the car is being advertised. If it’s being sold as ‘restored to original spec’, ‘concourse restoration’ or ‘mint original’ etc etc then you can expect some raising of the eyebrows if elements have been changed/upgraded/poor replacement parts used. Otherwise, it’s down to person...

Re: Gearbox cover Seal

Hi Bruce,
The 3.8 parts manual doesn’t specify a seal between the cover and the floor, just the fasteners. SNG doesn’t list one either. One mine, there was evidence of some sort of sealant - could it be that?

Hi Bruce and welcome.
Good to see another 3.8 fhc about to get back on the road. You are in the best place to get the answers you may need. Do you have any pics?

Re: 1963 Registration. Suffix or not?

Mine is a Nov 63 build date and dvla issued an A suffix registration which I believe is correct. So you should either have dateless or an A, not a B.

Re: Calling all Opalescent Gunmetal owners

Yes, very probably. We drove down from Lincs and arrived at out AirBnB in Haslemere just after 7 and we came through the Hindhead tunnel before turning off.

Re: Calling all Opalescent Gunmetal owners

I’ll be at Goodwood, in the classic show parking area so I’ll keep an eye out for other members’ E’s.
I’ll be in my 3.8 OGS fhc.

Hi and welcome. The relevant details will be on the heritage certificate, which you will need to buy from Jaguar Heritage. XKEDATA will show how many of your model are around in various conditions (but only if data has been uploaded) and there are several websites where you can look up how many are ...

Re: Hi all,

Hi :spamcan: and welcome to the best forum for all things E-Type. What model E do you have - S1, 2 or 3? How do you know the battery is original - that would be quite unlikely as they all have a shelf-life and would have been changed at some point in the last 50-60 years. But, there are always excep...

And if the engine is out, you’ll need some ‘hefty’ friends to sit on the frames to do it.

From memory, for positive earth cars, the wire from the ignition switch went to the "-" , which was the sw terminal on the old version.

Re: The 5 Speed is here……..

Convert my E-Type to electric? It’ll be a cold day in hell before that happens. I want the noise and the smells that only a beautifully designed petrol engine can deliver. However, I am constantly looking in my rear view mirror when driving it - not because I’m watching out for the ‘old bill’, but t...

Re: Gremlin attack - help

Hi, If you are happy with the fuses, then treat them as two different issues to start with. Brake lights - have you tested the switch on the picture frame? Turn ignition on and put a jumper wire across the two terminals. If lights come on, likely to be the switch. Fan - have you tested the both the ...

Hi In my 63 s1, the moss box seems to like the MT90 as did a similar box in my previous Austin Healey 3000. When Alan Slawson rebuilt my powerlok diff, he included the following info re oil: Warning Note – Castrol ‘Axle Z90’ limited slip oil or quality equivalent oil to be used for the LSD unit. Syn...

Re: Horn stopped working

Hi Do you get a click at the relay? If not, check the wiring at the relay and from there back to the fuse (and the fuse). If you do get a click, then it’s going to be more work as from memory you can only access the horn wiring via the headlight voids - so the scoops will have to come out to get to ...
