Re: Smiths gauge seals

If it helps, when I re-sealed my gauges, I purchased a length of appropriate diameter neoprene, and cut and superglued the ends to form a circle. A little extra work, but perfectly acceptable for the application, and very cost effective. Just a thought...

Re: Carpet fasteners

Very useful Geoff, thanks. That seems to be the area where the carpet tends to lift up. Not sure how to deal with the underlay in that area, but I will investigate. I went for the original style of underfelt rather than the modern foil backed version.

Re: Carpet fasteners

Much appreciated Geoff - those are the fasteners I used to have. The carpets are from BAS, so I'll check with them. I just wasn't sure what (if any) original fitment would have been. I haven't checked, but I assume there are no holes in the replacement floor pans, and I always like to match original...

Carpet fasteners

Can anyone advise if there should be any form of fastener to hold the footwell carpets in place for a roadster? (assume same for FHC, but you never know...)
Now that I have new floors and new carpets, I'd like to get these looking neater

Ignition switch rubber cable shroud C26851

Just popping onto this board to see if any S3 owners can confirm if the ignition switch rear cable rubber shroud I have a thread about on the S2 board is likely to fit the switch on an S3? The Jag part number is as above, but I don't have any relevant S3 information to be able to confirm if this was...

Re: Ignition switch shroud C26851

Hi Geoff, that's interesting. The outer part of my ignition switch as shown in the picture, is 39mm diameter (the insulated part with the terminal connections). I guess the original rubber is stretchy, but that seems a bit more of a difference than I would expect. Is that the same size as your switc...

Re: Ignition switch shroud C26851

Thanks Greg - I'm fairly happy with the sizes I've estimated, but it would be good to get an idea of the overall length, in case there's anything likely to get in the way once it's mounted. I'll keep you updated.

Ignition switch shroud C26851

It seems that the original (usually absent) rubber boot that would cover the wiring on the rear of the ignition switch is not at all easy to come by - although I prepare to be corrected. With that in mind, I am designing a 3D printed version using a flexible TPU material. I have sized it to accurate...

Re: Elusive Inner door trim.

Also interested to know if should be fitted to all S2 cars. Mine is car No.55 and was never on the vehicle during our family ownership (40 ish years), so perhaps only a later fitment? Assuming same issue for OTS as the coupes...The edge has certainly worn over time, so perhaps a later factory mod to...

Re: Centre dash rubber flap/seal?

I did a bit of research and it just seems it was to cover the gap (if any), preventing unsightly views of wires. I guess I'm happy to have another original part that went missing many years ago from my car - not sure it's ever going to get fitted though!

Centre dash rubber flap/seal?

Having just acquired a used S2 centre panel in order to salvage the rocker switches, I notice that there is a rubber flap and metal strip fastened to the lower edge. This has never been present on my car - can anyone confirm if this should always have been there or was added later in production? My ...

Re: Hood tie down straps BD20660

Unquestionably these are sh1t... However, if needed, here's a detail view of an original strap end - I think the SNG catalogue item image is a reasonably good match. No idea what they then managed to do to achieve the sorry item that the OP received. Surely, copying a 2 dimensional piece of leather ...

Re: Hood tie down straps BD20660

Yes, the straps fit as you would expect, with the top hat washer underneath, then a flat washer on top (at least mine did). Not sure that the original washers weren't plastic/Nylon? I think I 3D printed a replacement on one side - they are a pivot point so need to be free moving, but don't really ta...

Re: Hood tie down straps BD20660

Simon, those look appalling on so many levels, and shouldn't grace an E-type. As stated, the colour should be an olive green. However, the end shape should be more pointed - the shaping on the SNG ones is very bad, and also the end loop looks rough as anything. I have attached the only handy photo I...

Re: Footwell heater vents

So, I currently have a final prototype, but I need to check fitting against my own car vents to ensure it's ok. I'm hoping to be able to gain access to do that very soon - my car is in final stages of re-build, but of course access has been tricky with the current situation. Please feel free to send...

Indicator switch cancelling ring

Continuing my amateur efforts to replicate certain parts through 3D printing, I was wondering if the plastic toothed ring which serves to cancel the indicators is a suitable candidate for this. So, I've spent a bit of time measuring, constructing a 3D model, and producing one. The results are shown ...

Re: Clock

I think it's the 'finding one that works' part that is near to impossible with the LR50 powered versions. I believe they have a tendency to self distruct internally, and certainly, my original was not repairable. I sourced a Smiths clock from a reliant Scimitar, which is the same 12v powered interna...
