Noisy gearbox
The previous owner of my car (series 2 fhc) had the gearbox rebuilt by a supposedly reputable company. It works fine but is noisy in first and second. I took it to a well regarded E Type specialist who said they’d had the same problem: rebuilt boxes noisy in 1st and 2nd. I seem to recall reading som...

Re: Colour of front suspension wishbones
Sorry for the typo - yes gold coloured. Not crudely painted, either.

Colour of front suspension wishbones
On my series 2 FHC the front suspension wishbones are gold coloured. Is this down to the eccentricity of a previous owner or might it indicate an aftermarket source?

Re: Securon automatic belts.
Thanks. My belts came with a Z bracket which I’m using but I take your point about holding the reel firmly. I’m actually having some trouble fitting the stalk - it fouls the seat and I’m going to have to make up a bracket to extend it. My car is a series 2 FHC. Hopefully I’ve added this to the botto...

Securon automatic belts.
I’m about to replace a set of static seatbelts with Securon Automatic ones. Haven’t started yet but, insofar as I can see, I will be able to use the same mounting points. Can anyone who has done this before confirm or deny? Also any other advice gratefully received. No matter how elementary.

BHP of 4.2 engine.
I know that Jaguar's quoted output for their engines was optimistic but I can't now recall what is the typical true output (at the wheels) for the standard UK spec 4.2 E type engine. Please advise.

Changing diff ratio
I'm sure this must have been addressed before but a quick search didn't throw up an answer to my question, which is: how costly and difficult is it to change the rear diff ratio on the E Type (series 2)?

Choke hold on series II car.
Before I scrabble and contort myself under the dash, can anyone tell me what mechanism is supposed to hold the choke lever in its various stages between in and out. The handbook speaks optimistically of six separate positions. Mine has to be held manually at anything other than fully home. Thanks.

Brake vacuum valve on reservac tank, series II car.
What would the symptoms be if the brake vacuum valve on top of the brake reservac tank is not functioning properly, or at all?
Next question: if I remove it and have it on the bench, how can I check that it is working?
Thank you, JD

Loss of braking on Series II car.
My braking reduced significantly although it remained progressive and with no pulling to either side. Pumping brakes hard a couple of times, I heard/felt something give and full braking was restored. Waited for it to go again which it did and suspected loss of breaking or front or rear system. Teste...

plugs for 4.2 engine
I'm going to replace the spark plugs on my 4.2: essentially a standard engine but with petronix ignition. I'm proposing to go with what I understand to be the standard NGK plug - BPR5ES set with slightly wider gap than normal. Does that sound right? Any thoughts on other brands? Thanks, JD

Fuel level in SU's (Another carb query!)
For some reason I still can't explain, when I set the fuel level on my SU's as per the book (with 7/16 bar) the carbs visibly flood. I've checked that the floats aren't holed, and that the needle valves are seating properly. So can anyone advise me on the following: with the ignition on (fuel pump a...

Series 2 aesthetics
Nearly two years ago now I started a topic on this subject. Since that original posting I have come to the conclusion that the privileging of the looks of the series 1 over the series 2 is being promoted more by market than aesthetic considerations. For instance: I like the rear end of the series 1,...

Misfire.....
I know it's very difficult to diagnose a misfire over the internet but because the symptoms of mine are specific and chronic I thought I'd ask for your advice. The engine start and drives OK from cold. When warm it shows a reluctance to rev which becomes a misfire at high revs when the engine is war...

Replacement seats
I'd very much welcome your suggestions for fitting some replacement seats in my Series II coupe. The standard items aren't at all bad but I'd like something that (i) gives more side support, and support in the small of the back and higher up the back (ii) don't require too much work to fit and allow...
