Re: Door handles
You are quite right, but I would expect a brand new door lock to open only with it's own key, rather than the first 2 others I tried at random!

Door handles
The lock on one of my door handles gave up the ghost, so I had new ones from SNG fitted. Two new keys of course. Out of interest I tried the key from the old lock. It worked. I then tried another key that had only passing resemblance to the "correct" key. It worked. So anyone with a key that vaguely...

I use 98 or 99 where I can but frequently use 95when touring in Europe. Never really noticed any change in power or fuel consumption.

Tony, I've only just got the PM - I've sent you a PM with a series of photos tracking the linkages.
Let me know if you get them, and if they help

Re: Lazy Starting
I can almost count the number of days mine has stood by the number of cranks it takes! Not a bad thing, helps get the oil round before it starts.
More than a week, and it's a long crank.

Just had exactly the same thing. New master cylinder, but the reaction valve was a bit corroded and sticking. Fixed now.

Re: New clutch and thrust bearing
Ray, keep it simple. The garage undertook a "contract" to repair your clutch. It's there responsibility to do that. They haven't, so need to fix it if they want to be paid. Presumably you haven't paid them yet? In which case don't, and have your car taken somewhere that has competent mechanics.

Re: Smart chargers
Malcolm : no the CTek will revive almost anything, but its circuitry requires if to encounter a residual voltage of 2 volts . If your car is gradually discharging the battery ( immobilisers are one of the prime sources of this ) - Both my Bentley Continental R and my Mercedes CLK do it - it will ea...

Re: 69 S2 2+2 RHD throttle linkage
I have a '69 series 2 2+2, and would be happy to take a pic, but unfortunately it's away for it's winter service, m.o.t and a few jobs. If you're stuck when it's back early next week let me know and I'll take a pic

Re: Smart chargers
I’m sure you’re correct Christopher (as usual!) but if a 12 volt lead acid battery gets to less than 2 volts, isn’t it dead?

Re: Smart chargers
I'd guess the differentiating factor with these chargers is whether they have some additional strategy for deeply discharged batteries or not. I haven't analysed any other smart chargers other than this one, so am unable to add more. kind regards Marek My post on this seemed to disappear! The Ctek ...

I use a 20 year old optimate on the E Type, and a Ctek on the F Type. Both are fantastic.

Re: What can be done about the low exhaust....
Probably a stupid question, but are you sure you have the right hangers? I went out in one that grounded on road humps, and the expert (really!) i took with me to check my potential purchases out looked underneath and the exhaust was too low because it had the wrong hangers fitted.

You're right, only goes in one way, I think what happened is that the whole thing was positioned about 180 out when it was put in? Just know there was massive rotating to get it firing!

Re: Series 1.5 4.2L backfiring under load with new 123 distributor
And do read the set up instructions carefully. I think you can put the 123 in the wrong way round, then have to advance massively to get it running
