Hi everyone,

I live near Bishops Stortford and have been a lover of all-things motor-powered since I was a kid. Had an original 1964 GP Beach Buggy to start things off, a Baja Bug, a few Lotus Elise's, an MX5, a Porsche Boxster, and more recently a Lamborghini Gallardo, Hurracan and a McLaren 600Lt. I've not had anything since the 600LT and I've had a craving for a while to move away from the speed and tech (and finance agreements) that come with the latter vehicles. The McLaren was just too fast for road use (imo) and actually, if I'm honest with myself I had more fun in my £2k MX5 than the 600LT!

I then started looking at classics as I wanted to re-connect with the pure motoring enjoyment. The Austin Healey and the Triumph GT6 all were on the cards but I couldn't get away from the E-Type. A car I've drooled over for some time.

So, this year I'm going to get one. I joined the e-type club and have been consuming as much as information as I can. Like quantum physics, it feels like the more I consume the less I actually know :)

I don't have a huge budget, max will be around £50k, which I know limits my options. But what I'm looking for is a :

Series 2 Manual
Ideally not 2+2, but won't rule out
Needs to have good history and no rust issues
Driven / serviced regularly

So, if anyone is looking to move their loved-one on later this year that matches the above, feel free to get in touch.

Thanks,

Matt

Hello Matt and welcome to the best place for all things E Type. £50k might get you a decent S2 in the present market, though have a good look at the car, as like all old cars there are three things to check:
Rust, rust and rust.
In Letchworth there is our well respected restorer of E Types, Angus Moss https://www.mossjaguar.com/index.html#
He most likely won’t have or know of a car within your budget, but if you find one asking him to inspect it will be well worth his fee. You’ll get an honest appraisal of the car and what might be needed.
If you’re happy to do some of your own work on a car, then you could find one that needs a bit of attention but can be done while keeping the car on the road to enjoy.

Have a look at the JEC website, they have cars advertised, could be a good starting point. The E Type club tends to aim at the more moneyed owners, whereas the JEC is closer to most of the rest of us.

Good luck

Welcome to the best place…….hope you find what you looking for in your price bracket. All the advice above applied. BTW if you can slightly stretch you budget there is what sounds like a nice car being offered for sale in the ‘for sale’ section.

Matt. We live not far from each other - and if you don't already know there is a 1st Sunday in the month classic car meeting at Little Easton (Nr Dunmow) - wonderful location and a great Sunday Lunch in an old historical wooden barn. Quite a few Etypes when the weather is kind... Good luck with your search
