#1 Old Member - Additional Car...

Post by richard btype » Sat Apr 11, 2026 2:24 pm

Whilst being more than happy with 145 BWR, it's been a reliable car and ideal for Uk seasonal motoring. However 4 yrs ago the thought developed to do some European touring. At the same time an ex Canadian LHD 1965 4.2 FHC originally in Warwick grey with 59 k miles and off the road since 1978 appeared in my searches.

The car had on behalf of the vendor been inspected and a report and renovation cost (for the body only) been prepared, I considered that this would provide an opportunity within a reasonable budget to restore the car and to add my preferred specification (given that everything would need doing) and would give me the pleasure of restoring the car except for the body/engine/gearbox/diff and interior as these would be given to the professionals.

My preferred spec was to retain LHD, fit MX5 seats with cloth inserts/leather bolsters, adapt the diff to 3.07, d type spec wheels for ease of cleaning, alloy bonnet (as I had acquired one many moons ago) and air conditioning.

Best Laid Plans etc would be the next chapter....

Richard, one E Type is never enough
Have you seen Angus Moss’s S1? LHD as he does most of his touring on the continent. Aircon, reversing camera, etc.

I've not seen that Geoff, I've so far missed the Angus open days (and don't live a million miles away) one day the stars will align....

Well you could always give him a call and ask nicely if you can visit. He’s a good fellow with a busy workshop and if you offer to buy cake (not coffee and walnut iirc) or lunch then you never know
Though he’s out in Italy at present.
