#1 DownUnder Newbie

Post by ozetype » Tue Sep 13, 2011 10:57 am

G'Day lads,
E-Type newbie Matthew signing in from the Central Coast, NSW - 85 kms north of Sydney!
After some initial advice on trying to narrow down the month of manufacture on an S2 E Type I've bought.
Our Aussie 'Approval to Import" form accepts Yr of manufacture - Month is optional - but I don't trust the Feds. not to stuff up my application so want everything A1.
I have the VIN from the Dealer - but not the month of manufacture.
I've googled VIN registers but they have confused the issue more than helped.

Can one of the UK forum experts please enlighten me??:
I have a 1969 2 + 2 Auto Rego # CEV 50H
VIN 1R35576RLO
If you can identify the MONTH of manufacture for me that would be brilliant!!
I'll import & cherish this great car!
Cheers Matt

Hi Matt,

I am in Australia, also with an ex-UK car, although I imported this one myself when I migrated here a few years ago. You can't tell the month, or even the year of manufacture from the registration number as cars sometimes stood for a long time in damp fields in the UK before sale - one reason that they rotted so quickly afterward.

However, have you tried calling JDHT (Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust)? They can issue a certificate for the car with accurate details, including birth date. The certificate is available online for a fee, but if you phone them direct they may be able to help you over the phone, I called them last week and they were very helpful, try both the General Enquiries number and the Archive and Heritage number. Both can be found on this page, the contact details page for the site:

http://www.jaguarheritage.org/ContactUs.aspx

Good luck and let us know how you get on with rego.

Regards

Hi Matt
If you do a search on xkedata for cars with your number +/- 20 you get two cars with VIN nos. which straddle yours, both show a build date 16 September '69. I guess yours is due a celebration on Friday.

Hi Matt, your car was built on 17th September 1969, dispatched to Henly?s, London (dealers) on 1st October 1969. Cream with Black trim.
Original owner, records are sketchy but looks like, Hartnell Estates Ltd, Copperfield, Station Rd, Much Hadham, Hertfordshire.
Original reg CEV 50 H.
Hope this helps, kind regards, Tom.
